ACT Reading

In regards to test preparation, I scored a 33 on the ACT English in high school, and I scored a composite of a 33 overall. Moreover, in my English classes, I have made straight A's. The Reading Test is a 40-question, 35-minute test that measures your reading comprehension. The ACT test itself is designed to challenge what was learned in high school courses as a college entrance exam. While I cannot make guarantees on improvement of scores, I will work diligently to highly personalize the tutoring experience to help the pupil succeed.

Some of the topics to improve in ACT Reading include passages from: Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Prose Fiction, and Humanities.

Algebra 1

My preparation for my mathematics classes include taking Algebra I Honors in middle school, Geometry Honors, Algebra II Honors, and IB Mathematics (which includes Calculus) in high school. In all my mathematics classes, I have scored above a 101 in the classes. I was also a mathematics tutor in high school, and I love solving these mathematics puzzles. Inherently, this subject requires being able to apply concepts to multiple problem types. I hope to start with the basics and give challenging problems for the pupil's needs.

Anatomy

My high school course work included two years of IB Biology (HL) with Option C - Cells and Energy, Option D - Evolution, Option G - Ecology and Conservation, and Option H - Further Human Physiology. In that midst, the course also covered a semester of Anatomy. I had mean yearly scores of 103 and 102 in my junior and senior year respectively. Additionally, I earned a score of 6 on the IB exam which placed me out of my first semester of intro college biology. My Biology college coursework includes Abusing the Scientific Method, Intro to Biology II, Human Physiology, Foundations of Behavior, and Intro to Neuroscience. Having an affinity towards the sciences as a pre-med student, I study anatomy for the MCATs.

Anthropology

What I adore about my Neuroscience & Behavioral Biology major is the interdisciplinary studies afforded in Neuroscience, Behavioral Biology, Psychology, and Anthropology. Some coursework in the anthropology field include my elective studies in ANT 200: Foundations to Behavior, ANT 231: Predictive Health, and ANT 333: Disease & Human Behavior. While these classes had a focus on behavioral, cognitive, and medical anthropology, the groundwork of the "science of humanity" is broad if that. I thus have knowledge of biological and natural anthropology.

Biology

My high school course work included two years of IB Biology (HL) with Option C - Cells and Energy, Option D - Evolution, Option G - Ecology and Conservation, and Option H - Further Human Physiology. I had mean yearly scores of 103 and 102 in my junior and senior year respectively. My Biology college coursework includes Abusing the Scientific Method, Intro to Biology II, Human Physiology, Foundations of Behavior, and Intro to Neuroscience.

Chemistry

My high school course work included a year of Chemistry Honors where I scored a 99 and 101 for both semesters respectively. My Chemistry college coursework includes General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II. I have also taken the lab portions for these science courses. The varying topics that I covered in general chemistry include but are not limited to: Chemical Nomenclature, Atomic Structure, Periodic Table, Lewis Structure, Chemical Reactions, Stoichiometry, and Acid-Base Chemistry. In addition, as a pre-med student with an affinity for the sciences, I study Chemistry over the summer for the MCATs.

Chinese

My skill set in Chinese is two fold: I am a native Cantonese Chinese speaker and I have tested for the intermediate level for Mandarin Chinese. Regarding coursework, I have taken 4 semesters (2 years) of Mandarin Chinese scoring one of the highest grades for my class, and I practice Mandarin in everyday speaking to continue to use it in an interactive manner. Outside of languages, as a culture enthusiast, I know a plethora of information in regards to the Chinese culture from the history to the regional cuisines of China.

Geometry

My preparation for my mathematics classes include taking Algebra I Honors in middle school, Geometry Honors, Algebra II Honors, and IB Mathematics (which includes Calculus) in high school. In all my mathematics classes, I have scored above a 101 in the classes. I was also a mathematics tutor in high school, and I love solving these mathematics puzzles. Inherently, this subject requires being able to apply concepts to multiple problem types. I hope to start with the basics and give challenging problems for the pupil's needs.

I scored a 35 on the ACT Math in high school, and I scored a composite of a 33 overall. I will work diligently to highly personalize the tutoring experience to help the pupil succeed.

Grammar

My subject qualifications for English and grammar resounds with my understanding of writing, vocabulary, and syntax. I have written persuasive, expository, narrative essays and short-stories that have been featured in the Creative Writing competitions. I am well versed in syntax, grammar, punctuation, form, purpose, etc. Writing is a skill that applies to more than just your standard notion of literature, it's used for every subject, and proficiency in understanding this skill will improve many other subjects.

To speak a bit about my coursework: On the high school level, I have taken Honors English (9th and 10th grade), IB HL English (11th and 12th Grade). I scored a 6 on the IB English exam (which was comprised of three essays), and I scored a 5 on the AP English Exam. Moreover, on the ACT, I scored a 34 in English and 32 in Reading. On the college level, I opted out of Freshman writing, and for my continued writing requirement at Emory, I passed the Film Studies class with writing with an A.

Music History

Without a doubt, I enjoy music. I have played the trombone for 10 years in a concert, jazz, and marching band. Coursework wise for Music History, I have taken two years of IB Music (SL). Included in these studies were music theory, music history, composition, interpretation, world music, musical investigations, and performance. I received a 101 and 102 yearly average for the two year course. Furthermore, I scored a 5 on the IB Music (SL) exam which included an internal and external assessment.

Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry is probably one of the most challenging and rewarding subjects that I have taken in my undergraduate career at Emory University. I have earned A's on my exams (from Organic Chemistry I and II) and am well versed in various topics including: nomenclature, fundamentals of structure elucidation, stereochemistry, synthesis, and reaction mechanisms. In fact, some of my synthesis answers were featured for the answer key for the class to reference. Additionally having an affinity for the sciences as a pre-med student, I am studying for the MCAT and I review Organic Chemistry along with many other science subjects over the summer.

Inherently, O-Chem is very "hands-on" and accumulative, and thus requires diligence and patience to solve multiple problems. I will go in-depth to ensure that the pupil understands the concepts before moving forward. Succeeding in this course can be achieved by building on prior concepts and thinking in a more creative manner. If you're willing to put a bit of work and patience into it, Organic Chemistry can be mastered with a bit of guidance.

Physiology

My high school course work included two years of IB Biology (HL) with Option H: Further Human Physiology with scores of 103 and 102 in the class. Additionally, I earned a score of 6 on the IB exam. My college coursework in Human Physiology earned me an A, and moreover, I was invited to be a TA for this class for the upcoming year.

Most of the Human Physiology concepts require basic knowledge of general biology and cellular interactions to understand the mechanisms of body function. I would strongly advise taking general biology before moving on to this coursework. Additionally, I do offer Biology tutoring to better understand the basic concepts for this as well.

Prealgebra

My preparation for my mathematics foundation include taking Pre-Algebra and Algebra I Honors in middle school, Geometry Honors, Algebra II Honors, and IB Mathematics (which includes Calculus) in high school.

Public Speaking

My public speaking qualifications come from three years of professional acting training and involvement with social networking and media in the college level. As a child, I had a speech impediment, however, I wanted to overcome my fear of speaking to large crowds and spent several years doing so. I eventually mastered my speaking skills and began helping others with similar problems. I now am a student speaker for my college as a student leader.

In this professional acting school, I learned important professional skills of communication including:
designing and delivering basic arguments clearly, designing and delivering informative presentations clearly, designing and delivering complex arguments persuasively, speaking confidently with appropriate rate, projection, movement, and vocal variety, and evaluating and critiquing speeches insightfully.

Reading

My subject qualifications for reading range from applying critical reading skills. I believe reading and writing go hand-in-hand, and I will include information for both.

On the college level, I opted out of Freshman writing, and for my continued writing requirement at Emory, I passed the Film Studies class with writing with an A.

Spanish

My coursework for learning Español began in high school as a foreign language credit option. I took 4 years of high school Spanish: Spanish I and II (Honors), IB Spanish III, and IV (SL). I took the IB Spanish Exam which includes both written and oral components, and I scored a 5 on the exam. Furthermore, for placement at Emory University, I took a test with the results at the 300 level (or proficient level).

Writing

My subject qualifications for writing range from a plethora of writing styles.
