I am passionate about science education and I want everyone to be excited about it. I have taught at three different community colleges which included students from many different educational backgrounds and ages. This past summer (2013) I was a camp counselor at a science and critical thinking camp for kids aged 8-16. I had the great privilege to lead several activities including strawberry DNA isolation, microscopy, and evolutionary biology. I have been home schooling my children for the last 5 years and they have developed a love for all things science.
I have a Master's in Microbiology with a focus in Molecular Biology. I have experience teaching general biology, microbiology, molecular biology, and genetics. My goal is for students to learn the concepts of the subject and have fun doing it. There are facts that must be memorized, but I like to find ways to apply those facts to the real world.
I ask that students be on time and have their assignments ready. I will charge for no show if no attempt at cancellation was made. I would also ask for a 24 hour cancellation notice with the understanding that last minute emergencies occur. I'm somewhat flexible with location, but I'd like to initially meet at a local library or similar location.
I look forward to working with science lovers of all ages.
