I am a certified licensed elementary teacher. I enjoy working one on one with elementary students and have been tutoring over six years (PK-9th grade). I have a Master of Art in Teaching and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, with a minor in Special Education. My personal approach to tutoring is every student can learn, and they want to be successful in their studies. Therefore, it is important to gain the student's trust as we partner to navigate them to their goals. Yes, I investigate what the student wants to achieve in concert with the parent's goals.
I have worked with a broad spectrum of students (gifted to those with learning challenges). Most struggling students have lost a little of their confidence, along the way. I work to help them gain it back, as we tackle their unique academic challenges. Learning should be fun, so I incorporate all types of learning tools to facilitate learning (games, songs, software, manipulatives, workbooks, etc). I teach my students to celebrate their successes (small or large) as the move closer to their goals.
My motto is: Building Scholars and Lifelong Learners

I have experience teaching reading skills to students in elementary and middle school. I am certified to teach all elementary subjects. I used age and skill appropriate literature of interest during tutorial sessions to allow the student extended practice.
I use a variety of methods to help students improve their spelling skills. Some of the methods used include: writing, extensive exposure to print, hearing words, teaching major word patterns and spelling strategies.
As a licensed educator and an experienced tutor, I have worked with students to establish effective study skills as evidenced by their improved performance. Excellent tutor!! — I'm so glad I found Mrs. V! I had a great feeling about her after our initial conversation. She asked a lot of questions in order to gain a full understanding of my son's needs. It was also clear from then that she focuses on a student's strengths, while addressing weaknesses. Mrs. V helped my son prepare for the 8th grade writing assignment in just a few weeks. Before he started working with h ...
