Thank you for your interest in my profile and taking the time to see if my knowledge and experience fit your needs!
I am a recent graduate from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology, minored in Philosophy, and during my time there maintained a 3.5 GPA. As I earned my biology degree, I became proficient in an array of scientific subjects including biochemistry, genetics, organic chemistry, ecology, and microbiology among others. I also have extensive theoretical and hands-on experience with biological and chemical laboratory techniques, should that be material you have a need to master.
I was the president of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honors Society at Mercer University from August 2011 to May 2012, during which time I organized and participated in the after school tutoring program at an elementary school. In both group and one on one situations, I was able to get across relatively complicated scientific topics to the young children at the school. In addition to the many hours I spent after school tutoring these children, I also led study sessions for biochemistry, organic chemistry, and bioinformatics classes at Mercer, meaning I have the ability to teach a range of different age groups!
I like to think of science as a narrative and each different scientific discipline weaves into that narrative and has a complimentary place in it. As such, when I teach on a scientific topic, I first try to show its place in the big picture and then gradually focus in on the various details of that subject. I have found that this tends to demystify a potentially abstract and complicated topic and it turns it from a difficult idea into something easy to learn and often times into something that can really be appreciated! I love to use hands-on examples and show figures, pictures, and even videos to explain science. I have found visual resources to be essential in my mastery of biology and chemistry so I use them often to explain these ideas to others.
In addition to my qualifications in science, I also have a great deal of experience in writing, reading, literature, grammar, proofreading, and other language arts-related subjects. As a philosophy minor, I have been extensively trained to read and analyze texts ranging from greek myths to complex philosophical essays. I have also written dozens of lengthy essays throughout my academic training so I know how to construct and edit essays in order to produce consistently great finished products! As a former English major, I am well trained in proper grammar usage and sentence structure. I can be of great help for any of your language arts needs!
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you with any biology, chemistry, or physics class you may have!
