I am an experienced private school teacher with over 15 years of teaching K-5 students. I specialize in English/language arts, writing, remediation and intervention, reading comprehension and challenging the gifted child. In addition to my specialized areas, I have also tutored students from public and private schools in all core areas; including math, social studies, and science.

I enjoy working with students one-on-one to help them achieve their highest potential. My tutoring techniques include pre-assessments, communication with teachers when possible, using specific visual aids for drilling (such as flash cards, computer games, and books), as well as auditory-centered lessons and activities. I will take the time during my first meeting with your child to determine your child's learning style and what tutoring techniques will work the best for his/her individual needs.

During my 15 years in education, I have taught K-5 students in the classroom in all the core subjects. My experience in sixth through eighth grades have come in the form of summer camp writing and English workshops, as well as tutoring middle school students in various subjects.

Phonics

I have taught children from grades Kindergarten through Second Grade where phonics was an integral part of the language arts curriculum.

Explode the Code and homemade flash cards with vowel sounds and consonant blends are two of my favorite techniques to use when working with phonetics.

Study Skills

I have taught study skills to both my classroom students and those I tutor. I help my students with organization, making flashcards when appropriate, outlining research papers, highlighting important passages, and timing themselves when studying for more than one subject.
