My passion for teaching began 4 years ago when I studied abroad in Costa Rica for a month. While I was there to enhance my Spanish speaking skills I took the initiative to volunteer at a local elementary school. I wanted to give back to the community and working with these 5th graders did just that. I taught English to a class of Costa Rican 5th graders who knew little to no English. The language and culture exchange the kids and I expressed was more than I could of imagined. This experience stuck with me ever since then. Fast forward to today, after graduating college with a B.A in Journalism and receiving a TEFL certification I want to continue my passion of educating the youth and giving back to the community. I have over 10 years of tutoring experience specializing in English, Writing, Reading, TEFL/TESOL, Basic Math, Social Studies and Science. Over the years, working with a myriad of students from all ages, I have found that tutoring with a relatable personality is key. Patience mixed with repetition, real-life examples and practice, practice, practice guarantee good students. Not only do I focus on building a good rapport with the students I focus on instilling the information that needs to be learned so that it becomes a part of their everyday thinking. I focus on making the subjects interesting, relatable and useful. These components allow the students to want to learn information they believe they can use in their everyday life.
