My name is Nancy. I am passionate about the subjects I teach and put my heart into lesson planning and teaching! I specialize in Spanish, Italian, ESL and English tutoring and have been working with WyzAnt for two years. My private students include adults who want to learn a second language for enrichment and travel, professionals who need Spanish or English for their work, and high school students.

I teach all levels of Spanish from absolute beginner to advanced. I'm a fluent Spanish speaker with a strong command of Spanish grammar and vocabulary. I help my ESL students improve their American English pronunciation and fluency along with their reading, writing and listening skills. I also teach beginning and intermediate Italian. My regular travels in Italy give me the ability to teach regular, conversational Italian in addition to correct grammar and vocabulary.

My B.A. is in Spanish with minors in English and French. For my M.A. in Comparative Literature I studied American and Latin American literature. I am a certified K-12 Spanish teacher and taught high school Spanish for fifteen years. I am ESOL-endorsed by the State of Georgia and have seven years experience in ESL teaching. I am also a certified English teacher and have taught English at the college and high school levels. Finally, I have worked as an editorial assistant and proofreader for book publishers.

My trademarks as a language teacher are patience, empathy, and a strong belief in each of my students' potential.

An M.A. in English or Comparative Literature requires a superior command of the English language from vocabulary and syntax to sophisticated writing skills. While a graduate student at UCLA, I taught World Literature, which required a command of the literary criticism on the works I taught, as well as expertise in teaching English Composition. Subsequently I taught English Composition at the community college level and was an editorial assistant for the University of Wisconsin Press and a proofreader for an editorial firm. As a high school teacher, I taught English Literature and Composition.
I am qualified to support you in all elements of English from grammar and vocabulary to advanced reading and writing.

I have been tutoring adult and high school ESL students for almost two years and previously taught ESL in public school for eight years. I am ESOL-endorsed by the state of Georgia.

I have a Master's in Comparative Literature and have taught English in college and high school. I am skilled in teaching ESL from the basic elements such as phonics, spelling, grammar and pronunciation to college-level reading, writing, and speaking.

As a second and third language learner myself, I know that learning a new language, especially English, is very difficult. I try to help my students feel at ease and make learning enjoyable.

As I mentioned in my free response, I have a Master's in Comparative Literature, which is similar to a Masters in English. By reading my subject description for English, you will see that I am well qualified in all aspects of English teaching, including grammar.

In addition to my training and experience in English itself, I took four semesters of college Latin, which gave me an even stronger grasp of English grammar. I also believe that my study of three romance languages has strengthened my command of English grammar because they are strongly related.

The ability to make grammar rules and constructions understandable to students is the key to being a successful teacher of grammar. Students must also practice applying grammar in their writing in order reach the point where they barely need to think about grammar when they write. My background in English and foreign language teaching makes me an expert teacher of grammar.

I am passionate about the Italian language! My family is from the Le Marche and Veneto regions of Italy, and I spent my childhood in an Italian immigrant community listening to a lot of spoken Italian. Later, when I was in high school, I discovered that I excelled in languages and made it a goal to learn Italian.

I have been studying Italian and practicing it for several weeks every summer in Italy for ten years. There is nothing I enjoy more than conversing with native Italian speakers!

What sets me apart from many tutors is my foreign language teaching career and my personal experience as a learner of three foreign languages.

I am rated advanced in Italian proficiency. If you are a beginning or intermediate Italian student, I am qualified to teach you to converse, read, write and comprehend spoken Italian using correct vocabulary, grammar, spelling and pronunciation.

As your Spanish tutor, I offer a B.A. in Spanish from San Jose State University (with a 4.0 in Spanish) and an M.A. in comparative literature from UCLA, where I specialized in Latin American literature. I also bring with me a sixteen-year career as a Spanish teacher and two years of Spanish tutoring.

Apart from my expertise in teaching Spanish, I speak the language as fluently as I speak English and have a generic, native accent.

My expertise lies in making Spanish grammar accessible to Spanish learners. I have been told by college educated Hispanics that I have a broad and deep grasp of the grammatical structure of Spanish. During the sixteen years I spent teaching high school Spanish I developed a wealth of tools for making lessons engaging and effective. The variety of students I taught and the innumerable challenges we faced taught me when to slow down, try a new approach or provide new challenges.

Whether you are a high school or college Spanish student or a professional needing to become proficient in Spanish for your work, I am well qualified to help you reach your goals.

If you have read my free response and subject descriptions of English and Literature, you know that I have taught English Composition at the high school and college levels. As a teacher and tutor, I have helped many students with expository writing assignments, including descriptive, persuasive, narrative and critical writing. I can teach you how to organize your ideas and back them up with evidence for a coherent and engaging written work. Finally, I can also show you how to edit your work for grammar, vocabulary usage, mechanics and style to create a polished final written work.
