I have been teaching American History for the past five years and I thoroughly enjoy sharing my expertise in the subject. Although I can provide basic preparation for the End of Course Test (EOCT), I specialize in preparation for writing persuasive arguments, especially in the Advanced Placement United States History course's (APUSH) Document Based Question (DBQ) and Free Response Questions (FRQ).
My writing preparation includes how to:
- brainstorm (which is more complicated than usual, most notably for the DBQ)
- include outside information (without which, students will not receive college credit)
- set up a convincing thesis statement (a skill that needs to be developed across multiple subjects)
- interpret documents for symbolism and historical references
- manage time
- quickly proofread
During tutorials, I will also provide outside resources to extend and clarify any portion of American History that may confuse the student.
APUSH is the most difficult and longest standing course offered by the College Board. The writing portion of the exam leaves very little "wiggle room" for fabrication of facts and the APUSH instructors who grade the exam have standards to prevent those with a limited scope in knowledge of American History from exempting the course in college.
I was certified at the Marist Summer Institute (2008) by a highly successful instructor who had deep insight into the test. I know how the exam is graded and the kind of pressure it puts on students in order to exempt the college course. Students that score a 3 or above are able to skip completion of the class, saving them THOUSANDS of dollars in tuition.
I invite you or your child to ensure success by investing the time in preparing for one of the hardest exams of a high school career.
