I graduated from Emory University with a B.A. in Arabic and political science. My passion for the Arabic language has taken me all the way to Morocco, Jordan and Lebanon to study, translate, volunteer and even work in finance and nonprofit. While studying Modern Standard Arabic at Emory kept me preoccupied for a good amount of time, I managed to find time to pursue opportunities to teach and volunteer.
In the past five years, I've gained an immense amount of pedagogical and training experience in diverse fields: coaching a swim team and teaching swim lessons all-ages and all-abilities, coordinating and leading activities for less-privileged children in Atlanta, and reading to children in bilingual education programs. While in Jordan, I worked with several financial institutions to help create a secondary education loan product for low-income students throughout the country.
I can think of no better sense of accomplishment than watching someone--child or adult--learn, improve and succeed under my direction and encouragement. I'm very enthusiastic about mixing my two greatest passions--languages and teaching--into a fun experience right here in Atlanta.
I am a recent graduate of Emory University with a B.A. in Political Science and Arabic. While at Emory, I completed all available undergrad Arabic (modern standard) courses in addition to a private supervised translation class and a graduate-level literature class with a 4.0 GPA. My passion for everything Arabic has taken me to study literature at Al-Akhawayne University in Ifrane, Morocco and to work and volunteer in Jordan and Lebanon. Most recently, I spent half a year in Jordan working for an international NGO, in which I managed a team within a local financial institute that structured and implemented a student loan program for Jordan university students.
Thus, I have a great deal of both academic and professional translation experience and have some experience teaching Modern Standard Arabic to native Arab children. In regard to learning dialects, I am very comfortable with Jordanian/Palestinian 'aamiyeh, and I know some Moroccan Darija. I have study materials for both in addition to the complete set of Al-Kitaab books for studying MSA.
Arabic is a part of my life every day (no matter where I am living at the time!) and I would love to help guide you with my experience and energy to develop a love for the language similar to mine!
A recent graduate of Emory University, I was a competitive swimmer throughout high school and college at the Varsity level. I believe that everyone deserves a chance to learn the skills--basic through advanced--to exercise, compete, and most of all, enjoy, swimming at any level.
I have 6 years of teaching and coaching swimming for all ages and abilities. I take great pride in the results I've had from my swimmers, which has entailed everything from learning the fundamentals to improving technique to lessen fatigue during Olympic triathlons. I independently coordinated programs and taught lessons for 4 years with the Emory Community Swim Club, ages 2 to 65+ and including disabled swimmers, in both public and private lessons. Additionally I have coached the year-round youth swim team at Emory for several years and was assistant coach and volunteer program coordinator at the City of Decatur team for a summer.
The joy I get out of swimming is surpassed by the true excitement I feel when I succeed as a swim instructor to help people achieve and surpass their goals. With many years of experience and proven results under my belt, I hope to continue to get Georgians excited about swimming for many more to come!
