I am a born and raised midwesterner with a strong southern accent who grew up in Indiana and was influenced by my family’s Tennessee roots. I was constantly teased about my accent but found it was one of my greatest assets, allowing doors to open on new people, opportunities and even work; the same held true when at age 13 my family moved to California and I was that unique girl with the southern accent. Moving to Tennessee three years later I felt I finally was where I should be: the South.
My education began in Interior Space Design with a minor in Art at the University of Tennessee. During my college years the art department had one Apple computer with a 13” screen; everything was done with an exacto knife, rapidiograph pens, wax machine and rub off letters. In my freshman year, I started working at a silk screening company in the art department cutting rubylith. It was in this tightly fitted room with four large drafting tables, t-squares, pantone colored pencils, and India ink that I first experienced the freedom to tap into my graphic design talents. I began working on everything from designing a new company logo to designing flyers, brochures and finally, the corporate catalog. I became innovative working within a limited budget, deadlines and minimal available tools. By successfully adapting to these guidelines, I became a valuable asset to the company. Five years after graduation, I continued to work at the silk screen company. It was during this time that we acquired a small apple computer and I began to realize my potential; this prompted me to look for a more challenging career in graphic design and explore the Atlanta job market.
After just one interview, I was hired for my knowledge and creativity in the field and a strong work ethic. I moved to Atlanta and stayed with the same company for over 15 years. Presently, I have been given the opportunity to seek higher goals due to retirement of the existing business owner.
Whether I’m in a far away land exploring the world or at the lake seeking a wave to jump on my jet ski, I try to make the most of every day. If traveling the world were a profession, it would be mine. Travel allows me to meet new people, experience diverse cultures and live life to the fullest...all the while stoking the fires of creativity to share with the world.
For the past 25+ years I have engaged in the full creative process of high-impact designs intended to attract and sell. I have developed creative projects, including advertisements, brochures, catalogs, direct mail, corporate identity, packaging, presentations, websites, promotional displays and signage. Designs may integrate typographic, photographic, illustrative and other elements. I have a strong sense of concept development, in addition to communication, research, problem-solving and presentation skills. My design ability and proficiency in software applications such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and QuarkXPress are excellent. My web design skills are developmental at this point in my career, but easily polished to perfection. I posses the ability to collaborate with teams to plan, analyze, organize and execute assigned projects.
I am a very patient teacher and caring individual that wants to help you or your child get the most out of the tutoring sessions.
