Sandra has over 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience and has been trained in the Orton-Gillingham method through the Institute of Multi-Sensory Learning. Currently certified in GA, she has also held teaching certificates in MN and NJ. Her broad background includes teaching in urban and suburban schools, as well as privately tutoring emerging readers/speakers through high school honors students and corporate executives seeking to refine their skills. Sandra has homeschool experience and also enjoys teaching English to speakers of other languages. Most recently, she published a children's book with her son. She possesses a special gift for reaching success with students who have previously experienced frustration with certain concepts or styles of teaching.

Reading

As a certified English-language arts teacher, I have experience in teaching all levels of reading, from pre-reading skills through adult learners. As an Orton-Gillingham trained reading instructor, I build a strong foundation in phonemic awareness through multi-sensory activities which maximize retention and keep the student engaged and excited about learning. I provide an initial assessment and periodic updates on the student's progress. These assessments are included in my hourly rate.

SSAT

I have assisted numerous students in preparing for the SSAT. As a former Associate Director of a prestigious local tutoring company which was one of the first to offer SSAT tutoring in metro Atlanta, I also arranged, observed, and evaluated group classes and our other tutors.

Elementary Math

As part of my training for an education degree, I studied teaching elementary school math. I have over 20 years of tutoring and teaching experience and have helped a wide array of students in mathematics, from preschoolers learning basic concepts through high schoolers studying Algebra I or preparing for the SAT.

Elementary (K-6th)

Public Speaking

As a certified language arts teacher, public speaking and other stage arts were included in my training and are required as part of classroom teaching core standards. Additionally, I speak in front of audiences of various ages when I promote my children's book, Joey is Thankful. I have been filmed by CNN's Accent Health, the Arthritis Foundation, and also by the American College of Rheumatology to share my personal journey of health and well being.
