I have garnered a unique skill set as a science and math tutor through my education and personal experiences. I recently graduated Dartmouth College with a M.S. in Clinical and Health Services Research and earned a B.S. in Neurobiology & Physiology and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park. Since each individual is unique in how he or she learns, my style as a tutor often relies on the needs of the student. I can easily conform to the style of learning that the student is most receptive to, whether that be orally, visually, through writing, or examples. I will be attending medical school in the fall and will also be available to counsel students who are considering this as a career choice. My direct experience as a tutor is as follows: tutored middle-school level math and reading to students with disabilities in an after school program; tutor with the Academic Support and Career Development Unit (University of Maryland, College Park), where I taught Calculus, Biology, and Chemistry to athletes attending the university; undergraduate teaching assistant (University of Maryland, College Park) for an introductory biology course; and was also a mentor to students while working with the National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke. The main motivation I have to stay involved in teaching is because I can distinctly remember the teachers and mentors that inspired me to be dedicated to my academics and research. I found these individuals to be invaluable to shaping my path and I continue to be involved in teaching because I hope to provide this same inspiration to another.
