Hi! My name is Thanh (like the first syllable in "Tanya"). I’m a fourth year student studying physics and mathematics in the Atlanta area.
For almost 5 years, I’ve worked and volunteered as a math and physics tutor for various organizations, institutions, companies, and schools on a weekly, if not daily, basis in K-12 math and physics as well as university level math and physics (up to and including Partial Differential Equations).
I love teaching, especially teaching physics and math, but I prefer working with a few students at any one time; as such, I don’t particularly want to be a teacher in a public or private school setting. Tutoring also allows me the flexibility to pursue my own studies at school, which is always a plus.
Lastly . . . I want physics and math accessible to any student willing to learn. I think that the process of learning how to solve physics and math problems fosters amazing critical thinking skills, confidence, and independence in all other subjects, from biology to literature.
And I believe that to do either subject well, it takes understanding instead of memorization, as well as constant practice with a variety of different problems.
As such, I try my best to offer my students with as many resources as possible, including (but not limited to):
1) My own hand-written notes (physical and digital copies)
2) Step-by-step solution guides for extra problem sets
3) My personal copies of various textbooks
I also understand that no one learns the same way, and do NOT expect that each one of my students learns as well one way or another. And since there isn’t just a single way to teach physics or math, if something doesn’t work, I’ll be happy to try something else.
I've been a tutor for an international tutoring franchise for three years. As a professional K-12 tutor, I was trained in tutoring K-12 math; however, most of my students are elementary students, with middle school students being the second largest demographic. I've worked regularly and still work regularly with students on all elementary math topics.
Amazing! — In a world of multiple choice mathematics, Thanh is a breath of fresh air. My son has learned something new at each session. She patiently ensures that he is able to explain how each problem is solved and why. Afterwards, she challenges him to think of even more efficient methods to use. Thanh has taught him various mental, verbal, visual, tactile, and written techniques. What an amazing mathemati ...
