I’ve tutored since college, running after school sessions during the week, then peer-tutoring alongside Harvard and MIT peers on weekends. After college, I worked with the Boston Public Schools system and the Upward Bound college prep program teaching and tutoring students in English, Math, Reading and Art. My work with elementary, high school and college students have garnered awards including “Best Tutor,” “Best Counselor,” and “Best Teacher," and a Spirit of Idealism Award. I currently tutor in English/ Reading, Writing, Literature and test prep. Additionally, I help teams and individuals develop oral and written presentation skills, from Public Speaking, Visioning and Leadership Development to Drama/ Theater and Filmmaking.
As a tutor, I find that if you can get kids interested, their fear of failing gives way to curiosity. In film, we use math to set a scene's lighting ratio, and employ literary concepts to compose a frame. Whether building a camera or a set, I rely on tutor lessons that organization and a consistent, systematic approach are key to success. I seek to set a similar foundation in my students, and will go the distance to help them achieve, passing on what other tutors have taught me.
