I am a very patient and dedicated tutor! I grew up in a multilingual home; French was my first language, and English was my second at a very young age, and I studied Spanish from elementary school to college. Not only that, but I was exposed to Spanish as it was spoken at home as well and I grew up watching TV in the language. Summers spent in Puerto Rico and 15 years in Miami helped me to become very fluent. I formally studied French at the college level, lived on an island that belongs to France, for over 8 years, and have a degree in French. I was also exposed to Haitian-Creole, growing up. I am really a native speaker of American English though, having grown up on an American island.
Here is an explanation of how I teach: I like to make sure that you, my students, feel comfortable with me. I also want to keep you motivated. While keeping you on task, I like to make sure your learning environment is lively and entertaining. I was trained at the Berlitz School of Languages in Miami and have used their total immersion program. You will be pleased that I am a very patient tutor who can infuse humor and smiles into your lesson and can work with all ages. My knowledge of Portuguese is such that if I have students whose first language is Portuguese at least I am aware of their language and this will help them to feel more comfortable with me. My exposure with Portuguese came from the 15 years spent in Miami and my personal studies. I am fluent in spoken Haitian-Creole although that is not here as a language. If that is your first language, you will feel comfortable knowing I speak it if you need to revert to it from time to time.
I am available to work only in the Sandy Springs and Dunwoody area. Thank you for considering me!
