Hi, my name is Alvita. I hold a BA in French from the University of Georgia (Athens, GA) and I am near completion of my BEd in Foreign Language Education. I also speak Hebrew.
Relative to work experience in the French language, I've spent the past 10 years ('98-'08) studying, working and living abroad. For five years, I worked in Benin, a francophone country in West Africa, as the Executive Administrative Assistant and Interpreter to the project manager of a large construction and community development project. On this project, 250 men and women from villages surrounding our project site were trained in every aspect of building and maintenance in masonry, carpentry, plumbing, electric, etc., borehole water well drilling and water tower construction.
In addition to construction, we offered training in life management skills, computer, literacy in French, English and Hebrew, handcrafts, and vegan vegetarian cooking classes. Over the 5 years, the people learned how to be malaria-free and how to attain and maintain good health via practicing a healthy lifestyle with emphasis on preventive healthcare through personal and environmental hygiene, proper diet, waste elimination, water therapy, exercise training, regenerative nutrition and cooking classes. Conducting all the training and work in French and/or from French to the native "Fon" language was both a very challenging and exciting learning experience.
My tutoring and teaching style is fun coupled with creativity! I believe that learning should ALWAYS be an enjoyable and rewarding experience, so I like to create ways to help students retain material learned in any language, despite the level of difficulty. I only ask the students to put forth the time and necessary effort to excel, and that they be ready and willing to be gently pushed forward towards answering the challenge. I believe in making each class session count!
