After graduating from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, with a BA in Communication and Rhetoric Studies with a double minor in Philosophy and Gender Studies, I immediately proceeded to law school at Georgia State University, where I am now in my second year. I have been successful in all my studies thus far with an undergraduate GPA of 3.9 and law school GPA of 3.4, which I have achieved while working between 20 and 35 hours a week.
I have been teaching and tutoring for about 9 years. As an employee of the Oglethorpe University Writing Center, I assisted students with papers and other written assignments. I have also coached competitive high school speech and debate and taught debate over the summer for the Emory National Debate Institute for the past five years, which requires lessons in research, argumentation, public speaking, and public policy.
Generally, I try to get to know my students, and do what works best for them. However, I do believe students learn best when they are involved in the process. Instead of telling them the information as if in a lecture, I try to make sessions conversational, asking questions, and thereby drawing students out of their shells. I have found that with this method, students' nerves are put at ease because they realize they know more than they thought.
