After graduating from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, with a BA in Communication and Rhetoric Studies with a double minor in Philosophy and Gender Studies, I immediately proceeded to law school at Georgia State University, where I am now in my third year. I have been successful in all my studies thus far with an undergraduate GPA of 3.9 and law school GPA of 3.4, which I have achieved while working between 20 and 35 hours a week.
I have been teaching and tutoring for about 10 years. As an employee of the Oglethorpe University Writing Center, I assisted students with papers and other written assignments. I have also coached competitive high school speech and debate and taught debate over the summer for the Emory National Debate Institute for the past five years, which requires lessons in research, argumentation, public speaking, and public policy.
Generally, I try to get to know my students, and do what works best for them. However, I do believe students learn best when they are involved in the process. Instead of telling them the information as if in a lecture, I try to make sessions conversational, asking questions, and thereby drawing students out of their shells. I have found that with this method, students' nerves are put at ease because they realize they know more than they thought.
Used InDesign in design and layout for both high school and college newspaper, including courses in both high school and college about print design using InDesign. With this training and experience, which totals at 6 years, I also single-handedly redesigned Oglethorpe University's student newspaper, The Stormy Petrel using this software.
Having worked in the University Writing Center for several years, and tutoring the same subjects privately and through WyzAnt, I have over 6 years of experience working with students on college and graduate school admissions applications, essays, and resumes. My work with resumes includes strategic wording, organization, and design.
While completing my Philosophy minor at Oglethorpe University, I took multiple logic courses, both in the math and philosophy departments. Not only did I receive As in each of those courses, but I also did peer tutoring in those courses.
After 7 years of competition in speech and debate (including qualifications for 4 national championship tournaments in Original Oratory), I began teaching policy debate at the middle and high school levels, which I have continued for the past four years. Each summer since I graduated from high school I have taught middle school policy debate at the Emory National Debate Institute. Last year I also began teaching at the Memphis Debate Institute working with high school students from the Memphis Urban Debate League.
In addition, I hold a B.A. in Communication and Rhetoric Studies, having spent the past four years studying the art of persuasion and communication, both in written and spoken forms.
