I am currently a third-year Physics Education major at UGA, though I spent two years at Georgia Tech. I have been tutoring for nearly five years. When I tutor, I am known for being very flexible in my teaching style; I will change my methods to suit your needs. I am also highly proficient at explaining difficult concepts. Teaching and helping others are my passions.

I have much experience with tutoring, which is how I honed my proficiency and flexibility. I began in tenth grade, by tutoring struggling students through my high school's academic intervention program. I also tutored my peers on a more unofficial basis; I usually met with at least one of them every week from tenth grade through my senior year. More recently, I have tutored for companies similar to WyzAnt, and have received positive feedback from my students there as well.

My favorite subjects to tutor include physics, calculus, writing, and grammar. I also do enjoy test-prep tutoring, such as preparation for SAT/ACT/AP tests. I myself am more of a visual/kinesthetic learner, but I understand the importance of auditory learning as well and am capable of teaching students who are primarily auditory learners. I aim to be a customizable tutor – one who can tutor any student in any subject I know.

I offer a friendly, fun, yet highly successful learning environment to any who seek my help. I will provide the personal attention that even the best of students sometimes needs. I understand that sometimes books and lectures are not enough. Teaching and learning are human, organic processes, and I treat them as such. I hope you will choose to work with me, since I am one of the best tutors you can hope to find!

Mirabella’s subjects

ACT English

I tutor the English ACT section by first teaching strategies for approaching it, and then teaching concepts, with the assistance of practice questions and tests. I usually conclude with a targeted review of concepts with which the student struggled during the process. This method is subject to change based on a student's needs. While I did not take the ACT myself, I have ample knowledge of English concepts and testing strategies, which were sufficient to greatly improve the scores of my previous students.

ACT Math

I tutor the Math ACT section by first teaching strategies for approaching it, and then teaching concepts, with the assistance of practice questions and tests. I usually conclude with a targeted review of concepts with which the student struggled during the process. This method is subject to change based on a student's needs. While I did not take the ACT myself, I have ample knowledge of math concepts and testing strategies, which were sufficient to greatly improve the scores of my previous students.

ACT Reading

I tutor the Reading ACT section by teaching strategies for approaching it, as well as the types of questions on it, with the assistance of practice questions and tests. I usually conclude with a targeted review of question types with which the student struggled during the process. This method is subject to change based on a student's needs. I usually conclude with a targeted review of question types with which the student struggled during the process. This method is subject to change based on a student's needs. While I did not take the ACT myself, I have ample knowledge of data analysis and testing strategies, which were sufficient to greatly improve the scores of my previous students.

Algebra 1

I have helped many students in Algebra before. I myself began learning Algebra as early as fifth grade. As an advanced math student, I understand what foundations and habits need to be formed in this course so that a student can succeed in later courses.

Algebra 2

I have helped many students in Algebra before. I myself began learning Algebra as early as fifth grade. As an advanced math student, I understand what foundations and habits need to be formed in this course so that a student can succeed in later courses.

Calculus

I have taken and done very well in AP Calculus BC, Calculus 2 and 3, and Differential Equations. Even if a student only needs help in one area of Calculus, I am equipped to give insights into how that area might relate to others and to real-world applications. For these reasons, I am more than qualified to tutor any student in the basics of Calculus.

English

English is one of my favorite subjects. I love to read and write, and I am something of a grammar aficionado. I took Gifted and AP English classes throughout my high school career, so I can tutor many different levels and aspects of this subject.

Grammar

Proper grammar is something which I practice in everyday life. I am a self-confessed "Grammar Nazi," and often enjoy pointing out or correcting grammar mistakes in signs and publications. This has caused me to be deeply familiar with proper grammar, usage, and mechanics in American English. I promise not to be obnoxious in my tutoring of this subject, so do not let my label of "Grammar Nazi" turn you away!

Physics

I am a Physics Education major at UGA, and so have ample knowledge of Physics. I also took AP Physics B in high school, and received a score of 5 on the exam, which means I understand the types of problems which appear on that exam and how they are graded. I will tailor my tutoring method in this subject to the needs of the student, because every person and every class is unique.

Prealgebra

I have helped many students in pre-algebra before. I even help my former pre-algebra teacher with her students on some Wednesday mornings. As an advanced math student, I understand what foundations and habits need to be formed in this course so that a student can succeed in later courses.

Precalculus

I took Gifted Precalculus in high school and still have my notes from that course. I also took Calculus BC, 2, and 3, and Differential Equations, so I know how the topics in this subject will be applied in more advanced math courses.

Proofreading

I frequently assist my friend and peers with proofreading their writing. I would tutor this subject by first teaching or reviewing "GUMS" concepts and standard proofreading marks. I would then compile or write a series of passages for my student to proofread. I might even have the student proofread his/her own writing, depending on the goal of the tutoring. This method would be subject to change based on the student's needs.

PSAT

I am a National Merit Commended Student, which means that I was one of the best in the country when I took the PSAT. I of course also tutor the SAT, and made a near-perfect score on that test, so I am more than qualified to tutor this test as well.

SAT Math

I tutor the Math SAT section by first teaching strategies for approaching it, and then teaching concepts, with the assistance of practice questions and tests. I usually conclude with a targeted review of concepts with which the student struggled during the process. This method is subject to change based on a student's needs. I had a perfect score on the Math SAT, proving that I have ample knowledge of math concepts and testing strategies, which will help to greatly improve the scores of my students.

SAT Reading

I tutor the Critical Reading SAT section by first teaching strategies for approaching it, and then teaching relevant concepts, with the assistance of practice sentences, passages and tests. I usually conclude with a targeted review of question types with which the student struggled during the process. This method is subject to change based on a student's needs. I had a score of 780 on this section, proving that I have ample knowledge of reading skills and testing strategies, which will help to greatly improve the scores of my students.

SAT Writing

I tutor the Writing SAT section by first teaching strategies for approaching its varied parts, and then teaching relevant concepts, with the assistance of practice sentences and prompts. I usually conclude with a targeted review of question types with which the student struggled during the process. This method is subject to change based on a student's needs. I had a score of 740 on this section, proving that I have ample knowledge of writing skills and testing strategies, which will help to greatly improve the scores of my students.

Vocabulary

I had great success with learning Greek roots, Latin roots, and vocabulary throughout grade school. I even took three years of Latin in high school. I would teach these roots for a student seeking help with vocabulary, and include memory devices for learning definitions (such as pictures or rhymes). This method would be subject to change based on the student's needs.

Writing

I am a stickler for grammar, and an avid reader. Both of these have made me an excellent writer. I can help students with many different forms of writing, from book reports to college essays to research papers.
