For almost 30 years, I have been teaching Sociology and its major sub-fields in colleges of all sizes. I pride myself on building trusting, effective and helpful bonds with students. As your tutor, I will do all I can to assist you with study skills, note-taking, "power" listening --- all of which will make a difference in any class you take. As for my particular areas of expertise, they are Sociology and Social Psychology. My belief is that I can make any troublesome material clearer and easier to retain. Traditionally, my students earn good, high grades, and that is what I would like to help you.
Tutors must understand that their particular approach to a subject may not --- in fact, probably is not --- the same as the teacher of the class being tutored. I will be relying as much upon you for a while, as you explain to me how the class is structured, what the areas of emphasis are, and what your teacher's specific expectations are. As I said, I have taught in small community colleges, major universities, and many school sizes in between, so I feel confident we can find common ground. Once we have a clear idea of what your classes' expectations are, constructing a plan of action should be quick and fairly easy. Though I realize I am technically "the lead" here, I want you to know that your input, your opinions will never be underestimated or overlooked.
I look forward to working with you, and getting those grades you know you can achieve!
