Hello! I am a first year MFA candidate at the Iowa Writer's Workshop and currently an instructor of undergraduate literature at the University of Iowa. I enjoy traveling, cooking, and photography, as well as writing and reading! I have had several years of experience working with k-12 students both academically and creatively. I certainly have worn many hats over the past years. Some of these include: dance instructor, swim team coach and swimming lesson instructor, camp counselor, afterschool program leader, tutor, theater teacher, and mentor. One of my favorite endeavors was as both the writer and co-director of a musical production featuring over one hundred students ages six through eighteen.
I am a passionate and attentive teacher and I make it a point to be full of positive energy, no matter the subject or the attitude of the student. It has become clear to me that despite the fact that I love to write and read, many students find these subjects difficult and uninteresting. My objective, both as a teacher and tutor, is to inspire learning, comprehension, and ideally, a new enjoyment for the written word.
I look forward to working with you and your student!
