Teacher has been director of elementary Sunday school program, directed VBS and taught an interdenominational women's Bible study for over 6 years while active in her own church. Also completed Philosophy of Christian Education course through Florida Bible College.
I have taught English in middle schools (7th and 8th grades) and have taught all subjects in a self-contained 5th grade classroom. The English curriculum included grammar, writing, vocabulary, spelling and reading. I am happy to work with a student's teacher and class syllabus to deliver maximum results. Additionally, I have team taught with history teachers where students wrote a research/term paper.
I have worked with international students and adults for over 20 years, first with the Dean of Students office where I was responsible for the foreign exchange students, and then with independent adults - incl. Brazilian, Egyptian and Indian - who were in the US with corporations. Currently, I volunteer weekly as an ESL teacher where the majority of the students are of Asian backgrounds. We have also hosted people from different countries in our home, and I thoroughly enjoy helping them become acclimated, improve their fluency, and learn customs along with more formal lessons personalized to the students' needs. In another volunteer capacity I have women from Nigeria and Korea. It is my privilege to help people feel more comfortable in the US.
When I taught in middle school, every student was required to take "Eagle Living," which helped students and their parents determine what learning style was most effective for each. Test-taking skills were covered as were techniques for reviewing and learning material. It is amazing to see how much more enjoyable school becomes when a student knows how s/he best learns and is assisted with new tools to use.
