In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a BS in Physics from UT Austin, and I took my first of several differential equations classes as an undergraduate. Physics requires a deep understanding of the many practical applications of differential equations, as do many of the biology and chemistry courses I have taken and taught through the years (e.g. reaction kinetics for understanding enzyme mechanisms in biochemistry).
I have tutored calculus, diff equations, and most other math courses at the high school, college and graduate school level for some 20+ years including working with 100s of students in a wide variety of differential equations courses, and have an excellent record of helping students do well in this and related courses.
I've taken the MCAT and tutored the material associated with the exam (biology, chemistry, organic and biochemistry, physics) for more than 20 years, including direct prep for the exam itself. Like other standardized tests, there is a certain style to MCAT questions, and generally there is a certain methodology and often tips and tricks for the easiest way to solve each problem successfully. I frequently find students need help in how to think about specific problems, and a framework for solving these. My success rate in helping students succeed at the MCAT is very high, and over the years I have helped students pick apart individual sections and types of problems into manageable areas of study.
I majored in Physics with a minor in Chemistry including materials science some 20 years ago at the University of Texas at Austin, and have tutored a wide variety of engineering, science and math courses at the undergraduate level since that time. This includes a variety of mechanical engineering courses based on principles of physics, math and materials science applied to engineering situations.
To date I have helped many 100s of students with engineering courses, including everything from simple mechanics and structural design to thermodynamics and fluid dynamics courses including advanced aerodynamics, including a wide variety of computer statistical modeling and use of advanced matrix and differential calculus in problem solving. Analysis includes the design, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems.
I have used Microsoft Access for many years since the release of version 1.1 in 1993. I’ve used a variety of database management tools, including Access (and others such as MySQL and SQL tools) in a wide variety of contexts for clients and myself. These include remote access to databases for web-based applications such as older e-commerce sites and troubleshooting/modifying legacy forms created through Access that contained in-line scripts for manipulating data and presentation on the screen. I have years of experience with relational databases and understand normalized data, how to model business systems with data (when to add another table and fields, for example, and what data type is best), and how to design and perform database queries using SQL. I have worked with VBA macros and design and modification of reports – both simple and complicated.
I have used Microsoft Windows daily since the release of version 3.0 in 1990. Since then I have worked with Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows for Workgroups 3.11 and NT 3.1 and more recently Windows 7 and 8. I have installed and worked extensively nearly every major application available on Windows, included the MS Office Suite, and worked extensively with remote desktop and as a network administrator have managed Microsoft Windows servers including DNS and IIS. I have troubleshot nearly every software and hardware glitch that has come along, and have worked to improve performance and find effective workarounds for various issues with integration and compatibility with older and with non-Windows (e.g. Linux and Apple) systems. I have restored files and rebuilt more operating systems than I can count. These days I work via desktop or laptop with Windows-based OS predominantly, but increasingly find myself working across other platforms such as tablets and smart phones and with other OS including Droid and Mac OS and on cross-platform compatibility issues. After all these years from browser wars to mobile, I remain a fan of MS Windows and look forward to its next evolution in both the personal and business server spaces.
I first took Organic Chemistry and related courses such as General Chemistry and Biochemistry some 20 years ago as an undergraduate at UT Austin, where I majored in Physics and Chemistry. Since then I have tutored various Organic Chemistry courses for dozens of professors, textbooks and schools for 100s of students.
While much of the core material has remained unchanged - including predicting reaction rates and mechanism and products and understanding common reaction types. I have noticed that today's courses have refined all this and with the introduction of online resources, the information is better and often easier for students to understand.
I've been a user of QuickBooks since the old Quicken software from 1994. I've been a regular user of all versions of QB since, both for myself and for a wide variety of clients helping them to setup and manage basic bookkeeping tasks for small and medium sized companies, and migrating them to small business accounting packages and in some cases mid-market accounting and enterprise ERP systems.
I ran a retail business for several years using the QB Point of Sale (POS) system which integrates with QB including interfacing with credit card processing and setup of multi-terminal systems and determining how best to setup and design basic inventory and reporting structures.
I have worked with many clients on these and increasingly on advising clients on business decisions for newer, mobile-friendly and POS credit card processing platforms and applications.
