My name is Dawn and I have been an educator for over 10 years (I actually think I was born an educator!) As an undergrad at Illinois State University, I completed 27 hours in Math, but changed my major to History. Because of my background in Math, I was certified to teach it upon completing my student teaching experience through St. Xavier University in Evergreen Park, Il!
I taught Algebra, Geometry and Adv/Alg Trig on the high school level in the city of Chicago for three years. In addition, I've served as a Math tutor and an ACT Math instructor for over 5 years at Trinity Higher Education corporation. I was trained in ACT prep at the Cambridge Corporation and thus I have a thorough understanding of test prep strategies and practices.
I enjoy tutoring because it provides an opportunity to be creative. The one-on-one time allows me to really understand how students think. It also gives me a chance to present the material in a manner that simply makes sense to the student. I enjoy changing students' minds about math! I can assure you that you will have a different outlook about the subject and if you're already skilled in the subject, I can help you take your skills to the next level.
I believe math is a language and I teach it in that manner. It's my desire to help students get to the root of what questions ask. In addition, I believe that building confidence in one's ability is the first step to mastering the material.
I love figuring things out, but more than that, I enjoy helping my students conquer math problems that they never thought they could!
