A Highly Qualified Patient Teacher
Hi there. I have been teaching for 13 years and I love my job. After you read this, I believe you will understand more about me and about why I am a teacher. I have an Associates and a Bachelors in Elementary Education. I also have a honorable discharge from the United States Navy. You have a right to know about how and why I teach as well as what I expect and why. It is entirely likely that you are here because education is giving you a hard time and you need some tools to help you get through your academics. However, I am here by choice. I elected to become a teacher because I wanted to work with young people. You and I both know that only the brave and daring would do something like that! I chose to teach! I am here because I want to be here. We must make our time together worthwhile. To do so, I will need your help. There is so much to share and so little time. And all too frequent are the distractions and interruptions. Off to a Right Start!
As a result of my ever-changing context, I've spent a lot of time thinking about the craft and practice of teaching, as separate from course content, age of students, size of class, or institutional setting. Everywhere I go, I meet exemplary teachers, and I've been interested in figuring out what makes them so good. What I've discovered is the inherent sameness of good teachers, regardless of the substantial differences between them in terms of style, personality, goals, and pattern of interaction with students. I would go so far as to say that good teachers, in all settings and at all levels, have more in common with each other than any of them may have with their colleagues in comparable positions. There is so much to share and so little time. Let’s keep busy and spend wisely what little time we are given. Let’s make every minute count!
