I am a graduate of Mercer University with a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Having taken over 11 college level English courses and assisted in teaching three college level English courses, I am confident in my English tutoring skills as well. From January to May of 2013 I taught chemistry in a private high school in Macon, Georgia and did science and math tutoring. I have tutored over 150 hours in nearly every subject area for students in kindergarten through college. I also have experience tutoring ESL students. After graduation I spent a year in Thailand teaching English. Since my return to the U.S. I have been developing and implementing a STEM Program at a private Christian school.
I have taken 11 college English courses and have over 150 hours of tutoring under my belt. I have over 20 hours teaching elementary students how to read and working on their reading comprehension. I have also worked over 30 hours with elementary students in mathematics, spelling, and social studies.
I have a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology degree. I have taken Genetics as well as Molecular Genetics. I also have done two years of research involving DNA and RNA isolation, replication, gel electrophoresis, PCR, Reverse transcriptase and Real Time PCR.
Logic can be taught a variety of levels. There are basic logic puzzles that can be used to teach logic. Also, philosophy teaches the development and proper implementation of logic and logical fallacies. I was in Honors classes since kindergarten and throughout K-12 these classes focused on solving logic puzzles. I also was on the varsity debate team at my high school and have three and a half years of varsity debate at the collegiate level with multiple awards.
Public speaking involves the ability to communicate effectively with others. This involves conversing with different audiences whether in the form of a presentation, discussion, panel, or speech. I did varsity high school debate as well as three and a half years of varsity collegiate debate. I have received multiple awards for public speaking in the debate sphere. I also have given public talks on college panels and was in theater and pageantry for four years.
There are multiple study skills that are effective for different students. Some students require repetition, while others require note-cards and highlighting. Study skills are taught on an individual basis. In my 150+ hours that I have tutored students K-college I have taught study skills on top of regular classwork. Many times effective study skills is the key to student performance. I recognize that each student is different and many times I have been creative in coming up with effective study skills to improve the student's ability to learn.
