I always knew I wanted to be a teacher as I enjoy working with children. When I was a teenager, I was a diving coach and this inspired me to become an elementary school teacher. I find it rewarding to assist students (alone or in small groups) to achieve goals. When I started college, I immediately declared my major in early childhood education. My teaching experience has been in both the private and public school settings. I have taught Pre-k through fourth grade and have found my heart is at the primary level. I currently teach part-time in the Paulding County School System.
Being a parent has made me a better teacher. I am able to relate to my students and their interests since I have children of my own. I have learned that children learned to read in different ways and at various speeds. I recently graduated (Nov 2011) with my Master's degree in reading and literacy. Therefore, I am current in my field and am eager to use what research based methods work. I love teaching and find my strength is teaching reading to a beginning reader (K-3). Most of my experience and course work was with the primary grades. I will personalize my instruction and do everything to help my students succeed. I am hard working and dependable. I am committed to my students by being a life-long learner and strive to become a better teacher.
