Looking for a solution to your college or high school math difficulties?
I am a very caring, patient, competent, and experienced math tutor, coach, teacher, and mentor. My focus is college and upper-level high school math (calculus, precalculus, college algebra, trigonometry, etc.) I am known as "Dr. Calculus" because of my deep passion and enthusiasm for math, especially calculus!
I am currently an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Kennesaw State University, teaching calculus and college algebra. Prior to this I was a private high school math teacher. I thoroughly understand the academic environment and the math education process, and I know how to prepare the student to excel in it.
I also tutor high school physics/chemistry and college physics/engineering subjects with the same passion I have for math!
Here's a brief overview of my background and relevant experience:
After receiving a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering (which included extra courses in mathematics such as graduate-level numerical analysis and computer modeling), I worked for 14 years as an engineer and staff scientist at three DOE National Labs, primarily researching alternative energy conversion technologies. My research at the National Labs included extensive mathematical analysis and modeling, both analytical and numerical, of complex systems. More recently I've been involved with several entrepreneurial activities (primarily in digital publishing) which have, interestingly enough, benefited my ability to teach and tutor math and science.
After moving to the Atlanta area five years ago, I became certified to teach SAT Preparation for Princeton Review and taught several marathon 20 hour SAT Preparation classes at local high schools (I am no longer under contract with Princeton Review.) Subsequent to that, I started part-time teaching of high school math and science classes.
I also taught for 2 years as a full-time high school math teacher at Furtah Preparatory School, a small private school in Acworth, teaching all the math subjects in grades 6 to 12, including precalculus and calculus.
And, as mentioned at the start of this profile, I am currently an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Kennesaw State University, teaching Calculus I and College Algebra.
In addition, the math classes I taught at Furtah Preparatory included a number of students with Asperger Syndrome, ADD/ADHD, and dyslexia, so this experience will help me tutor grade-level students who have mild forms of these and related learning challenges. (For students with more serious learning challenges that do not allow the student to do grade-level work, it is better to find a tutor specially trained in teaching such students.)
Of course, I have individually tutored -- with great success -- a number of students in many areas of math and science, both high school and college. Students who are taking calculus, whether in high school (including AP Calculus AB/BC) or in college, should have a tutor. Calculus is my number one specialty! As previously mentioned, some even call me "Dr. Calculus".
I am also able to tutor (and mentor) especially gifted students (including those considered "genius") who need a much higher and more rigorous level of math education than they are getting in school. I will challenge EVERY student to reach his/her potential, no matter how high they are able to fly -- I will fly with them!
