English
I am a certified and experienced English teacher who excels at working with students of all types of abilities! I also specialize in motivating students to perform at their ability level and have a knack for explaining grammatical concepts in a way that makes sense to any and every student. I have been tutoring English (grammar, writing, literature, reading) since I was a teenager and have had many clients tell me I'm the only tutor who ever made a difference in their understanding. Bottom Line: I am patient, sensitive, compassionate, and extremely competent.
ESL/ESOL
I have been helping international students increase their English proficiency for more than six years. I have worked directly with students from Russia, Korea, China, Japan, Germany, and Honduras and have helped them improve written and spoken English. I also help them understand idioms and cultural norms, as these also make a big difference in someone's English language skills sounding natural and polished.
Literature
I have been teaching American, British, and world literature for twenty-six years. I have expertise in all genres including poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and plays. I specialize in helping students understand and identify themes and literary elements in everything they read.
Public Speaking
I have been a classroom teacher, a community leader, and a media relations director for a university and have given speeches and presentations in front of hundreds of people. I have also worked with many students, preparing them for regional competition in public speaking and oral interpretation.
Social Studies
I have taught middle school and high school social studies for nearly ten years and I have a master's degree in sociology. Because of my background in literature and my state certification as an English teacher, I am able to teach social studies courses with special emphasis on writing and on the connections between social science and the English language.
Sociology
I hold a master's degree in sociology from Valdosta State University and have taught sociology at the college level.
Special Needs

Writing
I can improve the writing of any and every student! I have taught middle school and high school English for more than ten years and have been tutoring since I was sixteen. My first job was tutoring college students who were struggling with writing essays and research papers. I have also worked with very young students in the elementary grades. I love teaching writing and can intuitively develop an approach tailored to the individual student. Patient and encouraging, I am highly committed to my students and am very confident in my ability to bring about immediate improvement.
