When I was in school, I had no idea which end was up. So, I knew what it felt like to receive a failed test back, as well as the overwhelming feeling of devastation, when I had to face my parents and teachers.

The materials the schools use, the methods they incorporate, and the teacher's attitudes can all take their toll on a student's ability to learn. Add a few nerves to the mix and you can clearly see how things can get out of hand.

That's why my students are taught to approach problems in a different manner. Due to the things I saw in the school system, I chose to create my own methods, so I can help students learn quickly. Students that study with me, not only end up with a complete comprehension of the material, but with the confidence they need to do the work, themselves.

Everything is done methodically. The work is broken down in such a manner that anyone's brain can take in the information, easily. It all falls into place and makes logical sense, because I connect one's lessons to their real day-to-day life.

When students come to me, they all tell me the same thing, "The methods and formulas blend together; I don't know when to use this or that." When their lessons are complete, they never question it again.

I've been in the tutoring field for almost 30 years, and I've logged over 2700 hours during the past year alone. That's approximately 8 hours a day, 7 days a week. Thus, I have a lot of experience in getting students to 'understand'.

I guarantee to each of you, the following: You will learn things you never did before, and even better, you will not have to memorize a bunch of formulas. I will determine your weak points without giving you a test because I know the correct questions to ask, and I will make sure you are confident of all the material. Oh, you'll also have fun working on it. You see, when I walk into a student's home, I do so with a smile on my face and a sense of humor.

Learning anything can be easy! The trick is how you're taught it.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Reading

The ACT can be very unforgiving. It doesn't allow for many errors, and it can easily determine how big your college bill might get.
Pass it with flying colors, and you set the bar for the rest of your college days. Fail it, and you reap the repercussions.

Of course, if you can make sense out of what you're reading, ALL the questions become easy. You don't have to think about the story, nor the intent behind it. That's where I come in and what I teach.

I work on 'every' area of comprehension and word knowledge, so you can understand what you're dealing with, and you can respond accordingly. Reading becomes simple, once you know what someone is trying to say. When I'm done, those I work with, can not only comprehend, they begin to enjoy what they read. The main idea jumps out at them, automatically, and the theme becomes prevalent. Everything fits into a neat little package that they can unwrap anytime they choose. That's the only way to teach it!

Any student CAN put it all together, anytime they wish, if they have the correct tools to use.

At the end of my lessons, all my students tell me, "Now, I get it. Wow, this is easy!"

ADD/ADHD

I have 5 children. Three of those five were diagnosed with various serious medical issues. As such, I chose to home-school two of them and allow the third to remain in school. Two of those children, along with their other ailments, had severe ADHD. One also had a spatial deficit which means his hand to eye coordination was very strained, at best. Additionally, I worked with many ADHD/Special Ed teachers and counselors, via the school system. I developed dozens of programs that not only helped my children, but the students in the various schools, too.

Aspergers

I not only have an autistic grandson, an asperger's diagnosed son, and a dyslexic brother, I was also an assistant at Pine Lake Elementary for the ESE/Special Ed Program, for several years.

Additionally, I took several courses in college that dealt with various disabilities, and I assisted many teachers to get their own master's degree in the same.

I have also developed many programs which help children and adults that are afflicted with various disabilities, to reach and accomplish goals that exceed their greatest expectations.

Given time and patience, these students can do anything, and I make them realize that!

Of course, since that time, I have developed many programs which help children and adults afflicted with various disabilities, to reach and accomplish goals that exceed their greatest expectations.

Elementary (K-6th)

Previously, I assisted the Miami Dade School System, for many years. During such time, I implemented dozens of programs that caused the scores of 880 students to dramatically increase. Presently, I homeschool my son, and I'm an ongoing, personal tutor for many students, k-12 and above.

Elementary Math

Without the basics, students can never get to the higher levels of education. However, if you give them a strong background to work with, they excel quickly. That's what I do!

I work on 'every' area of math, so there is never a question in a student's mind. When I'm done, those I teach, not only understand the problems, they comprehend the actual concepts. That's the only way to do it.

Any student CAN put it all together, but everything must fit into a neat little package, first, so they can unwrap it anytime they wish.

At the end of my lessons, all my students tell me, "Now, I get it. Wow, this is easy!"

English

Without the basics, students can never get to the higher levels of education. However, if you give them a strong background to work with, they excel quickly. That's what I do!

I work on 'every' area of English, so there is never a question in a student's mind. When I'm done, those I teach, not only understand the language of English, they comprehend how we use it. That's the only way to do it.

Any student CAN put it all together, but everything must fit into a neat little package, first, so they can unwrap it anytime they wish.

At the end of my lessons, all my students tell me, "Now, I get it. Wow, this is easy!"

General Computer

I used to own a computer store, for several years. I've assisted many schools to set up their computer systems, and I was the person that was supposed to keep them running. I can make them stand up on an end, and talk, literally. I also dabble in creating websites, so I'm quite familiar with most forms of computer software. Anyone who says they know about 'all' software is obviously not being truthful, so I won't say that. There's just too many to know all of them, obviously. However, if one gives me a few minutes with a program, I can generally figure it out. Obviously, if you're having difficulty making heads or tails of computers, I'm the gal you want to get ahold of. I've taught over 800 children in various schools how to operate just about everything from the mouse and headphones, to signing onto their network, and I've taught teachers how to operate software that made their hair stand on end. Thus, I figure I can teach just about anyone to use a computer, or software, properly. If I can teach my own mother (a self-proclaimed computer idiot) to use her computer, obviously, I can teach you! ;)

Grammar

Without the basics, students can never get to the higher levels of education. However, if you give them a strong background to work with, they excel quickly. That's what I do!

I work on 'every' area of grammar, so there is never a question in a student's mind. When I'm done, those I teach, not only understand the problems, they comprehend the actual concepts. That's the only way to do it.

Any student CAN put it all together, but everything must fit into a neat little package, first, so they can unwrap it anytime they wish.

Microsoft Windows

A lot of people are lost when it comes to operating their computer. Well, I was in the same position, when I first started using a computer. But, I had an advantage over many. You see, I was left to my own accord to try to figure things out. Because I was, and I was introduced to computers by a computer guru before Windows made its debut, I had to learn the actual syntax of a computer (language). Thus, I didn't have to worry about 'icons' and things like that. No, instead, I had to understand how they were created and what made them do the things they did.

So, if you want to learn from the ground up, why and how everything works in Windows, feel free to contact me. One cannot learn enough about computers, at least, if they're to keep up with today's world. ;)

Painting

It's easier if you take a look at my website (http:www.books20.com) which shows a variety of artwork I created. I teach oil, acrylics, and even sketching (in charcoal and pastels). I also do photography, but would not consider myself advanced enough to teach it.

Phonics

I, previously, worked with the Dade County Public School System to help approximately 880-900 students each year learn how to read.

I developed my own system, using a wide variety of phonics programs and paperwork, together, to achieve the best possible way of delivering the information to young minds. In fact, this same system is still used in the public school system, today.

I have also taught adult readers, phonics. In addition, I've been able to reach those that have been chalked off, previously, as 'incapable of reading' due to health deficiencies.

Anyone can read and comprehend what they're reading, if they have a solid, beginning foundation in phonics.

Praxis

I have tutored 'Praxis' numerous times. The last client referral listed on my profile (at the end,) was trained for the Praxis test, and you can see what he stated, himself. He was able to pass with flying colors.

I've also assisted many other 'trainees' to do the same, and have been tutoring for no less than thirty years in all subjects listed on my profile, many of which are covered in the Praxis.

Additionally, since I assisted Polk Schools with the students, I have an 'in' on what the real scoop is, once a teacher becomes licensed with Polk County, not to mention, what the board is specifically looking for, regarding new hires.

Thus, I'm able to assist new trainees from start to finish.

Rana

Prealgebra

Without the basics, students can never get to the higher levels of education. However, if you give them a strong background to work with, they excel quickly. That's what I do!

At the end of my lessons, all my students tell me, "Now, I get it. Wow, this is easy!"

Public Speaking

During the time I was the PTA President of Pine Lake Elementary, I had to speak in front of hundreds of parents on a regular basis.

Additionally, I took a course in college in order to become a licensed 220 agent. Part of the requirements for such certification for the state of Florida, was to take a public speaking class. I received an 'A' in the course.

I also assisted several students to ace their public speaking courses. In fact, one of them, during their final, created a speech about an imaginary product that made teaching a public speaking course, easy. The teacher gave the student an 'A++' and asked where he could purchase such a product.

Special Needs

During the time I was working in the school system, I helped the special ed and special needs teachers with their students. I have also raised two ESE children, myself, so I have first hand knowledge of working with them. Many schools and teachers cap these students off. They dumb them down. Personally, I would never be foolish enough to do so. I've learned that these students can excel in leaps and bounds, if the teacher can reach them. One can use methods adapted to meet their specific needs, but they have to be the right methods! Whereas most work backward with special needs students, I refuse to! Instead, I've developed new and creative methods of my own that take the special needs student to levels that are unbelievable. All I know, is the methods work, over a shorter period of time than normal. Of course, first, you have to find the real problems! All my special ed students excel at a VERY rapid pace. So, if you're seeking a special needs tutor, you need look no further!

Study Skills

I taught study skills to over 880 students in the school system, for over five years. I have worked with children and adults of all ages and styles. Currently, I work with many private students, so they can achieve their ultimate best.

Without the capability to study properly, children, teens and even adults will face many difficulties.

Strong study skills are an absolute necessity, in order to succeed in school, and life. It's not enough to just sit in a class and hope to soak up the knowledge that is being presented to you. You must put effort into not just learning, but understanding and actually applying the material. The earlier you can develop these skills, the greater your chance of success.

However, there is no magic powder that helps one to develop good study habits. That's because not everyone learns in the same manner. Some people need silence to review books, lecture notes, and/or handouts, so they can prepare for a test. Others prefer to study in a group setting, simply because they need to bounce ideas off of one another. Still others need to be able to see the material written out, or to use their hands to touch it.

The study skills you develop will be based heavily on your learning style. In fact, that's one of the first things I find out, before creating a successful plan of action.

Studying does not have to be difficult for anyone, as long one doesn't make the mistake of developing a study plan that is different from their own specific learning style. Can you imagine someone trying to study by listening to something, when they learn best by watching? Instead of concentrating on the actual material, they end up trying to make sense of a whole new process of learning.

That's why I teach my students to be aware of their own unique style of learning, whether it be visually (by sight), auditorally (by hearing), or kinesthetically (hands-on). Learning the method that comes easiest to them is the first step in being able to study properly. And, as we all know, studying is what causes one to be able to achieve more productive results.

Writing

Without the basics, students can never get to the higher levels of education. However, if you give them a strong background to work with, they excel quickly. That's what I do!

I work on 'every' area of writing, so there is never a question in a student's mind. When I'm done, those I teach not only understand the problems, they comprehend the actual concepts. That's the only way to do it.

Any student CAN put it all together, but everything must fit into a neat little package, first, so they can unwrap it anytime they wish.

At the end of my lessons, all my students tell me, "Now, I get it. Wow, this is easy!"
