I have taught and tutored for 10 + years. I enjoy working with students in a one-to-one capacity. I have experience teaching science (physics, chemistry, earth science and astronomy), math (math, precalculus, trig, geometry, calculus, algebra) and other subjects (philosophy, study skills, SAT preparation). My style of teaching is more of guide than lecturer/instructor. I enjoy helping students to 'see' the answers to the problems. Some background, I am from Baltimore (MD) and I went to college in PA where I majored in Astronomy and Philosophy. I subsequently received a Master's in Education from Loyola College. I have been living in Winter Park for the past 3 years. Last year I was substitute teaching in Orange County Public Schools (high school and middle school). I enjoy the opportunity to learn more about teaching/tutoring each time I have the chance to tutor. I also enjoy astronomy, chess and jazz music and poetry.

Algebra 1

I have taught this subject for several years. I enjoy Algebra I and II.

Algebra 2

I have extensive experience in teaching Algebra I, II, Trigonometry, Geometry, PreCalculus and SAT Prep. I presently teach Math at The New Academy in Windermere (FL).

Vocabulary

I have a good aptitude for vocabulary and my experience in helping students with the SAT has also helped me in this area.

Microsoft Excel

I have had experience using Microsoft Excel in a number of job situations. I have passed the Excel tests at a number of temporary staffing agencies.

Geometry

I have 2 years of experience in teaching Geometry at the high school level.

Microsoft Word

I have a lot of experience with Microsoft Word. I use it on a regular basis and have passed tests for it when I worked for temporary staffing agencies.

Prealgebra

I have years of experience in teaching Pre Algebra, Algebra I and Algebra II. I am presently teaching Pre Algebra at The New Academy in Windermere, Fl.

Precalculus

I have experience teaching PreCalculus at the Community College level.

Trigonometry

I have taught Geometry and Trigonometry for a total of 2 years.

Astronomy

I majored in Astronomy and have taught it as well. I have experience working at the National Air and Space Museum as well as the Maryland Science Center. I am knowledgeable about all areas of Astronomy.

I have experience with assisting students with Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary and General English Language Usage.

SAT Math

I have experience tutoring for the SAT MATH.

GRE

I have tutored students in taking SAT, ACT, FCAT and GRE.

I have experience in preparing students for the SAT in Math and Verbal tests.

I have taught Physical Science and Earth Science.

I have enjoyed chess. I have a good understanding of the fundamentals of chess including - pieces, opening moves, middle games, end games, strategies and chess puzzles. I have run a chess club. Lately, I have been improving my game by participating in speed chess. I am a patient instructor of chess.

Public Speaking

I have worked as a teacher for several years where public speaking is important. Also I have been a member of Toastmasters International which is a world leader in communication and leadership development.

Logic

I have majored in Philosophy and have taken coursework in Logic.

TEAS

I have a strong background in the areas of Math, English, Science, and Language covered on the TEAS and would be able to assist any Nursing students needing to pass the test.
