I am an enthusiastic, patient, caring and knowledgeable tutor! I believe that every student has the ability to succeed in school when they are given the right tools and proper support. I completed my bachelor's degree in elementary education, and received my teaching certificate (k-8) from the state of Michigan. I have taught in the public schools, tutored independently, and home schooled three children. My experience is varied, and so are the strategies that I use to help each individual succeed on their educational journey.
I completed my bachelor's degree in elementary education, and received my teaching certificate (k-8) from the state of Michigan. I taught for two years in a public school, and then made the decision to become a stay-at-home mom. As a part of that journey, I have become a homeschooling mom. I am currently teaching grades K, 2, and 4 (with special needs allowances as needed). I am constantly working to learn more about all subject areas in an effort to keep up with and stay in touch with the information I am/will be teaching.
As a part of my homeschooling experience, I have been using the A Beka and Calvert curriculum, and both utilize phonics as a stand alone subject. I have more recently familiarized myself with the All About Spellings program which utilizes the Orton Gillingham method of learning. This program uses the letter sounds, segmentation, and motor skills to teach phonics in a fun and engaging manner. I believe that I am very capable of teaching this subject matter to elementary aged students.
While I was teaching in a public school from 2001-2003, I taught a course on study skills as a part of our "homeroom" class. The course included learning about how to read for information, different ways to study for a test, and how to get information to move from short-term to long-term memory. The course included discussion, projection slides, and hands-on work.
Great! — We have only had a few sessions and I have already seen a difference in my daughter's math skills. Her teacher has noticed as well as she is doing so much better on her homework and tests! ...
