My name is Desiree C. and I am a college student who studies Computer Animation/Illustration as a major and have a minor in Film. My interests including helping students of different ages in various fields from the arts, to arithmetic, basic science and English. As an artist, I have skills in both organic and digital components including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, GIMP and for basic digital art MS Paint. I have published a few of my works in the literary magazines Mirage and Quest along with the college newspaper iPulse. Depending on the student's best way of learning, I vary from reading the assignment aloud, experiencing hands-on lessons and also visual contact. I also have experience tutoring various elementary students who are entering into junior high school, I have a base knowledge of elementary education. With music, I have seven years of composing on the piano from ear adaptations, music sheets and creating original pieces. I love diversity and my dream is to help those who are ready to excel in what they are challenged with, with an open mind and welcoming heart.

Algebra 1

Having algebra experience for four years, I can aid someone who needs help with it. From learning how to do the FOIL method, the order of how a problem is solved from exponents down to addition/subtraction, I have passed with an A. I also know the usage of fractions, substitution, probability and other mathematical topics.

Grammar

As a tutor to elementary students, grammar is second nature to me. I have been fixing errors such as punctuation, comma misplacements, the right usage of words that are spelled in multiple ways, apostrophes and other grammar.

Microsoft Word

When it comes to writing an essay for an assignment or adding a chart onto a written file, I have had experience in Word for 5 years. Though they have spelling and grammar as a tool, I double check to make sure the program has fixed every error. I understand how to import different media onto Word such as a graph from another Word file or a photograph from the internet as a reference. I also know how to use Word where you can use it in MLA format, screenplay format and other formats.

Prealgebra

Before taking algebra, there needs to be a set base. From fractions to probability, I have helped numerous students with their math problems. I have had experience with multiplication, rule of order where in a problem where exponents appear, they overrule multiplication, division, addition and subtraction. Astronomy

Having experience in astronomy for two years, I have learned various lessons from Copernicus's theory to where the solar system is. I understand that stars are actually divided into subcategories by size, temperature and color. I also notice that there is the argument where Pluto is not a planet and I understand that. There are also planets that are categorized by the material they are made out as well as other subjects in astronomy.

English

With English being my first language, I have been fluent in it for 19 years and have helped elementary, middle and high schoolers improve on their language skills. I understand the speech, the writing and the understanding of English where I can pinpoint a mistake and help correct a person with it. Grammar, spelling, literature, writing, reading and speaking are keys.

Literature

As a current undergraduate literature is key. I have had years of literature from the simple stories of Dr. Suess to the actual life of Anne Frank. Sometimes reading literature can get confusing and you have to reread what was written. I also take into consideration that with literature one needs to have an open mind and I will teach the student how to do so.

Adobe Photoshop

I am certified in Adobe Photoshop CS3 and skilled at using Photoshop CS5. I have used Photoshop for four years and can teach from the basics of how to use a brush tool to editing photographs where they do not appeared as if they are Photoshopped.

Proofreading

Proofreading is something people need some help with and I have had years of experience helping people with various writings such as essays, short stories and other subjects. I have corrected fragment sentences, grammatical and spelling error.

Adobe Illustrator

I had used Adobe Illustrator CS3 and CS5 for four years and can teach from the basics of how to use a pen tool to creating professional illustrative works. I understand that Illustrator is a vector based program and is more used for the template/cartoon style drawings as well as exporting it to other programs such as Adobe Photoshop.

Spelling

When it comes to typos in an newspaper article, a student essay or reading an actual novel, I can notice it fairly quickly and find the correction on it. I have been helping people with spelling for a few years, learning that there are multiple spellings of one word and multiple words with one spelling.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have helped in elementary teaching for six years ranging from math to reading and science. I have a knowledge of science in terms of astronomy, biology, geology, anatomy and other subjects that can be taught to a child ranging from the ages of 4-11. Piano

I have played the piano for seven years and can tutor from the simplest of songs such as "Hot Cross Buns" to intermediate songs that are written by Beethoven. I can also teach others ear adaptations and write music sheets.

Theatre

Being a thespian for 8 years, I understand the basics of theatre such as the diction of your voice where the audience can hear you to blocking out the locations where your character needs to be. I have helped students with their monologues and dialogues, having true emotion in their voices and actions. As for dancing on the stage, I have helped with the choreography, making it simple for others to follow along to whereas learning the whole dance at once can be difficult.

Bible Studies

From Genesis to Revelations, I have had many years with bible studies. Being a co-leader in a youth group where bible studies were relevant, I understand who each biblical character is, what they have done, why they made such an impact to the world and the events that occurred afterwards. I have studied most of the bible books in the pass 7-9 years and can make a clear understanding of what the books are saying.

Drawing

I have been drawing for the past 14 years in both organic and digital components. My mediums consists of graphite pencils, pens, color pencils, markers, oil pastels, paints, crayons and chalk. I can draw from realistic, portraits, cartoons, comics, manga, abstract and still life. I am pro for creativity in both the real and the surreal sense of drawing.

Public Speaking

I have been doing public speaking for 3 years on various topics such as the internet and not doing drugs in front of various people such as students and adults. I have learned that there is a certain tempo a person speaks at to keep the audience interested, how to create an introduction that makes the audience interested, how to conclude without any open air and have a speech where most of the questions are answered. I am skilled in using various cameras from the camera on the cell phone to a PX-150. I have edited in software including Windows Movie Maker, iMovie and Motion.
