My strong analytical experience allows me to focus on concepts and provide detailed examples and explanations of problems. I like to think of tutoring math as guiding my students to "see" numbers.
My teaching style is much like my learning style. I believe that getting students involved with content motivates reasoning and prolongs the length of their attention to the content. A teacher should lead, initiate discussion, and respond with enthusiasm. Student participation is of utmost importance to understanding content. Whenever possible, I try to demonstrate with a basic visual or plan an activity that initiates thinking, and then solicit the involvement of students to build a more complex model. I think of myself as more of a coach than a teacher.
I am a senior technical writer who has written major documents for banks and tax companies. I take the time to learn my subject in depth and apply my expertise to my writing. I pride myself on succinct and user-centered documents. In addition, I love teaching and the rewards of making a student feel confident with his/her mind.
