Isn't music great? It's been around for a long, long time and has gone through lots of change and evolution. During my 3 degrees in guitar performance, I took a few classes about music. Maybe it was more than a few...I took classes in music history, theory, education, appreciation, performance, listening, singing, technology, music industry, pop culture, etc, etc, etc. I learned all about music from my studies and now its my turn to teach you!
When I was a student at Juilliard I had the Morse Fellowship which is a program that sends Juilliard students into NYC schools to teach a general music class every week during the school year. I taught a 2nd grade and a 5th grade class. I also had an emphasis in music education during my doctorate at USC and I took many classes geared towards teaching general music and music appreciation.
I started playing 18 years ago because of a childhood obsession with rock n' roll and heavy metal. After a whole lot of guitar school, I progressed to love all types of guitar and my main focus is now classical, acoustic, and finger-style music. I have 3 degrees in classical guitar performance: Bachelor's from FSU, Master's from Juilliard, and a Doctorate from USC. There are few things in this world I enjoy more than sharing my knowledge of the guit-fiddle with those that want to learn.
I have 9 years of experience teaching students from ages 5-60 in private lessons, teaching in class and ensemble settings, and teaching guitar lessons at the college level. I teach a lot of children and get along with them famously. Some of my students have been accepted into The Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, the Aspen Music Festival and School, and Florida State University.
Music has been around since the beginning of time and has quite a history! You know what else has quite a history? Me. And the many, many subjects of music history I am qualified to teach. I took lots and lots of history courses during my undergrad degree in music from FSU, my Master's degree from Juilliard, and my Doctoral degree from USC.
You wanna know music history? ... Lets talk Bach!
Lets talk Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, ancient music, modern music, pop music ... You name it, I'll teach it!
There are only 7 letters in the musical alphabet, how hard can theory be!?
Just kidding, it can pretty tough. Especially if you're starting from scratch. That's why I'm here though! I'll guide you through it and make sure you know letters A-G backwards and forwards, up and down, right and left, and inside out.
I have a Bachelor of Music degree from FSU, a Master's degree from Juilliard and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from USC. During those many years of school, I took theory class after theory class.
I'll teach you from basics like time signatures, keys, scales, and chords, to advanced studies of analysis, atonal music and part writing.
