About Robby

Hello,

I am a young psychology professor available to help you learn things you might be having trouble with. I have multidisciplinary instruction experience, and have worked with thousands of students. I am enthusiastic and encouraging. Please feel free to contact me anytime!

My philosophy of education:

My teaching is unique and resists a neat philosophical classification. I encourage students to think for themselves, and resist any urge to tell them what to think. I am more interested in students developing original thought than agreeing with a certain ideology, even if that ideology is mine. I want my students to think differently and dare to dream, learn, and achieve. I desire to encourage a sense of wonderment in the world around us. I utilize lots of humor and real world stories from my experience in private practice to make learning real and alive. I like to model unconditional positive regard with my students.

Personal contact with students is essential to my approach. When I teach a course, I try to know each student by name and know at least one piece of personal information about him or her by the third meeting. I try my best to do this regardless of class size. My students are not a collective or even a class, but rather a gathering of individuals, each unique with something to offer to enrich the learning experience. I am very careful to take time and build relationships with students, and strive to be someone that they can respect. Because of this, I am very often invited to student graduations, weddings, and many other important life events. It is very important to me that my students know that I care and that I am not just someone who delivers information and records their grade.

I begin each class by going around the room and greeting each student by name and shaking hands with each of them. I use a hilarious overhead photo and a story to prepare students for what I am going to share with them that day. I realize that lecture is necessary, but really enjoy breaking students into small groups, and doing as much interactive hands-on learning as possible. It is not at all uncommon for me to share a memorized poem or story in my classes to link together disciplines. Most importantly, I dare my students to dream.

Cheers,
Robby
