I have been teaching and tutoring for seven years and have a long list of satisfied clients. That's because I strive to understand the students' own unique learning style and to explain things in a way that will make sense from the students' own unique perspective.
I prefer to focus on helping students understand their subject rather than just "get through it." When it comes to mathematics, for instance, I'd rather not teach "tricks" unless the student is prepared to understand why the trick works. The reason for this is that just memorizing tricks will cause you problems in the long run since knowledge is cumulative. If you put in the hard work toward understanding, then it will all be easy later on. Trust me.
I want you to get the most out of your tutoring fee. That's why I encourage you to read your textbook, if you have one. Tutoring is not a substitute for paying attention in class and studying on your own! I prefer that you use our tutoring sessions as a way to address anything that you still don't understand after you've tried to figure everything out for yourself. To that end, I want you to have questions for me when I arrive. Active engagement with the material is essential for success! If you're having trouble working up enthusiasm for the subject (don't worry, I used to hate math too!) I try my best to make the subject interesting for you. That's because I know from experience that you won't do something you don't want to.
Get in touch with me, and I'll help you understand math, science, programming, English, and writing.
I have taken a college Discrete Mathematics course, and done advanced work in Discrete Mathematics beyond the introductory level. I have many hours of experience tutoring Discrete Mathematics subjects on a one-on-one basis, including Logic, Set Theory, Probability, Combinatorics, Order Theory, Relations, Functions, and more. I try to make learning Discrete Mathematics fun by showing students how logic can be learned through certain specially designed puzzles, and introduce students to tools they might not otherwise have encountered, such as truth table generators and computer algebra systems. It is my goal to help students master Discrete Mathematics and have fun doing it.
I have taken classes in Formal (Philosophical) Logic, Mathematical Logic, Set Theory, and other branches of Logic. In 2006 I ran a mini-course in logic for Lifetime Learning, Inc. in which students were introduced to logic by solving Knights and Knaves puzzles. On a one-on-one basis, I have over 20 hours of experience tutoring all aspects of logic from syllogisms and logical fallacies to deductive proof techniques.
