I have been working with Renate to get ready for the TOEFL exam. Renata is an excellent tutor with comprehensive knowledge and great teaching practices. She provided me with techniques specific for TOEFL based on deep knowledge of this test structure and requirements, which prepared me to the test and allowed me to succeed. She is pleasant to work with and was flexible to accommodate my needs prior to the test.
I felt extremely lucky to find Renata. She has the knowledge, patience and dedication what makes someone a good teacher. She helped me tremendously prepare for my TOEFL exam. I would definitely recommend her!
My child and I were engaged with Renate during the summer and we are very glad we chose Renate. The classes were not only useful for us, but also very interesting! She is very good with children, my son fell in love with her classes! My English has improved, very sorry that I can not find the same professional teachers of English in Russia! I would like to say thank you, Renate!
I had a pleasure to study with Renate for a few month. Her style of teaching is very effective. She shared professionally-made study materials with me during our classes that helped me learn better. I also had a chance to go over the materials at home, improving my skills even further. Renate is patient and thorough. I highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a professional with great ability to teach.
It was our pleasure to meet Renate. We could afford only few lessons of Renate with our 8 yo daughter and the results exceeded our expectations. The plan was to give our kid a push before the Arts and Sculpture program for native speakers. Within only a week our kid have learned the required minimum of professional arts terms and got a fluent knowledge of how to apply these words.
Renate is bi-lingual, she knows 4 languages in total. The multi-language thinking, imho, helps Renate to deliver the information in a very digestible form even to a beginner. Plus the teaching style and patience.
I enjoyed our lessons. I got what I expected. I believe I have improved my speaking and reading as far as it is possible during these 8 meetings. I also appreciate that I not only have gotten new vocabulary and grammar knowledge, I also had very interesting debates with Renate, she is very good interlocutor as well as she is a good tutor.
I like Renate's way of teaching German. She is very patience and always keen to understand students goal and help them achieving the goal. When I first contacted Renate about learning German, she wanted to understand my level of German and the reason for learning it. Then she suggested me a road map to achieve my goal. Its great. Thanks Renate for helping me so far.
I was in pretty urgent need of test prep for the TestDAF, which is the German equivalent of the TOEFL. I'm very happy I decided to spend the money for a tutor, because Renate was able to research the test and print and bring test materials at a time when my access to the Internet and computers was very limited. She introduced me to the basic structure of the test and explained how it was evaluated. On my own, I would not have been able to understand the expectations of the exam. For example, I had very naive views on how to go about writing and structuring the essay for the written portion of the test. She reviewed one of my essay responses, and she demanded that I simplify. We practiced some writing together, which was very helpful. Renate also provided me with lists of transitional phrases and terminology for explaining data and trends, both of which came in very handy on the written and speaking portions of the test. As far as preparing for the speaking part, I felt that every minute spent with Renate was valuable because we spoke only in German (well, as often as possible - perhaps we should have been more strict on ourselves). She was always happy to correct me (she even printed out and edited our email correspondence to point out the mistakes that I tend to make, which I really appreciated). Additionally, she urged me to practice for the speaking part of the test by recording myself, and on her own time she reviewed and corrected my responses. What most people don’t understand when they pay for a tutor or when they talk about teachers is that there is a lot of work to be done outside the classroom; Renate was always prepared with corrections, with extra reading material, with practice sheets - we were never bored, and I am in awe of her professionalism and effort.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Due to the fact that I'm not a native speaker, I wouldn't feel comfortable teaching very advanced students, but I am very comfortable and very experienced in teaching lower level students and beginners.

I am particularly keen on introducing this wonderful language to beginners and to make the Italian culture more accessible to them because Italy is a country truly worthwhile traveling to.
Avanti! Parliamo l'italiano!
The area of phonetics is an integral part in language training. There are hundreds of sounds of human speech, which greatly vary from language to language. These sounds cannot be described by using our normal alphabet, but a specialist alphabet, the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet). Using the IPA will help you spell words phonetically and practice their correct pronunciation. Phonetics is about physiological production of sounds, acoustic properties and auditory perception. I have studied phonetics and have used the IPA when teaching ESL and foreign languages. Phonetics classes are also sometimes called pronunciation classes or accent reduction classes, which I have offered to students for many years.
I've been a language trainer for many years and have helped numerous people improve their language and communication skills, including writing and proofreading texts.
I can draw from many years of experience working with native and non-native speakers of English who were looking to improve their writing skills for business, day-to-day correspondence, academic purposes and even novel writing and composition. I have not only helped people improve their writing skills, but have also proofread their essays, speeches and papers.
Proofreading can be done remotely by email, skype or telephone and doesn't always require an in-person meeting. However, if you live within my travel radius, I would of course also meet with you and discuss things with you in person.
As a language and communications trainer, I work with native and non-native speakers of English in order to help them improve their language and communication skills, which includes public speaking and writing.
I have both a language training and PR/Communications background and can draw from many years of experience working in PR/Communications, giving presentations and training others to excel in this field.
Everyone can become proficient in public speaking. I have shown people how to prepare, how to structure their presentation, how to overcome their fear of speaking in public and how to feel more comfortable when delivering speeches and presentations, giving interviews, making announcements or any other occasion that requires speaking in front of an audience, no matter how big or small.
Be prepared, practice, be confident. Everyone can do this!
Having been an ESL and TOEFL teacher for many years, I teach all language skills including reading. I select level appropriate reading texts for my students, make sure that I pre-teach necessary knowledge and vocabulary, give students during-reading and post-reading tasks and enable students develop good reading strategies so that they can continue learning and benefitting from reading on their own in future.
The TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign language) is a common test to prove a new student's academic English language skills and an IBT score of 75 to 100 is usually required. The test is highly demanding and cannot be mastered without preparation.
The TOEFL consists of four parts, reading, listening, speaking and writing. Usually, speaking and writing are perceived as the two most challenging parts by students. These are the two parts most students actually need a tutor for, whereas the reading and listening parts can be tackled as a self-study task with a little bit of guidance by a tutor.
I have taught many TOEFL preparation courses, have all necessary books and CDs as well as many other materials I've created over time. I can let you do a full sample TOEFL test, give you your current score, analyze your strengths and weaknesses and help you improve critical areas.
I can draw from many years of experience in teaching English as well as preparing students for the TOEFL, so you're in professional hands.
Having been an ESL and TOEFL teacher for many years, I teach all language skills including vocabulary development. I elicit and evaluate my students' previous knowledge, set realistic goals and present vocabulary in a relatable context making sure that students understand the fuction of new vocabulary. Furthermore, I enable my students to develop an increased awareness of word families in order to develop an even wider range of vocabulary. These techniques allow students to continue learning on their own in future.
I've been a language trainer for many years and have helped numerous people improve their language and communication skills, including writing.
I can draw from many years of experience working with native and non-native speakers of English who were looking to improve their writing skills for business, day-to-day correspondence, academic purposes and even novel writing and composition. I have not only helped people improve their writing skills, but have also written various essays, speeches and papers for my students. Furthermore, I've given a lot of writing training in conjunction with my TOEFL preparation courses, which require amongst others writing skills.
Writing requires a lot of practice. Therefore, writing students usually spend a lot of time writing their own texts, essays and compositions and I would proof-read their work, correct mistakes and highlight and explain recurring mistakes, which can also be done remotely by email, Skype or telephone and doesn't always require an in-person meeting. However, if you live within my travel radius, I would of course also meet with you and discuss things with you in person.
