I am a retired Broward County Mathematics Teacher. Retirement after 37 years in the classroom is a challenge. I miss my students! I taught math at all levels. The focus of my years of teaching was in the middle grades. I taught Gifted and Talented 7th grades students Algebra One Honors.
I was a finalist for Broward Teacher of the Year in 2002. Only 8/25,000 teachers are selected. Besides being Mathemtics Department chairperson, I coached Sawgrass Springs Middle and Forest Glenn's middle mathematics teams. My students attended state competitions yearly and 4 top students went to the National MathCounts competition in four different years held in Washington, DC.
Before teaching the middle grades, I taught grade 3 in Ashland, MA and Narragansett Junior High, Narragansett, RI.
I touched the future and made a difference. Yesterday a student of mine that is now on his way to West Point wrote me a letter. "Thank You for all your help and encouragement in helping me reach this goal. I will always remember you."
My motto is do your best, ask questions, and I will answer any question that you ask. No question is too small to ask.
I believe that all children can learn as long as I can get their attention. The parent, child, and the teachers all have to be involved in the process.
