I hold a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, during my schooling, I learned and used advanced math and science concepts. I have retired from engineering and am presently working with students ranging from approximately 6 years to 17 years old in a controlled environment in both reading and math skills. The math I am dealing with covers simple arithmetic to pre calculus.

My schedule is flexible and I will make every attempt to meet the student's availability. I am excited about tutoring math topics mainly because I received tutoring help while going through arithmetic in school and I would like to pass it on to someone who needs help.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra I goes into the realms of 'unknowns' from aritmetic using manipulation of numbers including, addition, multiplication, division, and fractions with all the above operations. The 'unknowns' substitute or replace real numbers and are used in expressions and equations.
My background includes at least two semesters being taught Algebra I in addition to tutoring two students in Algebra I. I look forward to working with students who are having trouble with this math.

Algebra 2

Algebra II carries on with the precepts of algebra I into the solutions of second order and above equations. My background includes both high school and college courses which, included Algebra II concepts.

Electrical Engineering

My interest in Electrical Engineering started, while young, with a desire to build electronic kits and learn electronic principles. My educational background includes an Associate Degree for Engineering Technician, a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and a Masters Degree (MSEE) in Automated Design. Work experience spanned over 25 years and includes responsibilities as a Component Engineer, Reliability Engineer, and Space Radiation (Survivability) Engineer. During these 25 years, presented training on Electronic components, and tutored students on math (algebra), statistics, and electrical engineering concepts (circuit analysis).

Prealgebra

Pre-algebra includes skills such as ratio/proportion, first order linear equation solutions, and some basic probability. These skills were learned in high school and college and were conveyed via Kumon learning Center to students.

Precalculus

Pre-Calculus contains such subjects as polynomial functions, rational functions, Exponential and Logarithmic functions, trig functions, and Complex numbers. All of pre-calculus topics were covered extensively in my training for a Masters degree in Engineering. Some of these topics were used by me to 'bone up' on special projects during my career.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry has been one of my favorite subjects in Math starting with High School, where I did well. I especially liked proving identities. Had another trig course during my two year Associate degree during which I excelled. Since trigonometry is used in other math subjects, I used it in a Calculus and Analytic Geometry course, and in all the calculus courses taken during my 4 year degree and my Masters. My familiarity with the subject makes for a good transfer of information to the student.
