My teaching certification includes Mathematics, Spanish, and French, and though I tutor across a number of disciplines, my greatest pleasure is bringing an understanding of math to students who have never before been successful in that discipline.
While teaching at the community college level, I also worked in the college's Math Tutoring Center where we tutored students not only at all levels of math, from basic remediation through Calculus, but also in Chemistry, Physics, and standardized test prep, including GRE, SAT, ACT, CLAST, and ASVAB.
It was there that I realized I had a real gift for explaining mathematical concepts to students who were primarily right-brain thinkers, mostly social science and humanities majors, and who very often have a difficult time understanding math.
I also tutored for Disability Support Services on the same campus where I achieved a high level of success working with students who had been identified as a having a learning disability with regard to math.
I am patient and thorough and encourage my students to strive for understanding as opposed to simply memorizing enough to get through a test. I welcome and have worked with students from high-school age through empty-nesters and thoroughly enjoy the one-on-one interaction that tutoring provides.
I look forward to working with you.
