I started out my education as a PC Specialist. While working in the Student Support Services Department at Faulkner State Community College, I became a math tutor. I liked this so much I decided to go through the schooling to get another degree, this time in Mathematics. It is there that I decided on furthering my education by attaining a comprehensive mathematics degree in education (minor in computer science). I attained my two associate's degrees at FSCC and my bachelor's degree at Troy University (Troy, AL). I found out that I could present a mathematical problem in a way with which my peers could relate.
I have taught mathematics for 7th grade as well as for 9th through 12th grades including general math, Algebra I & II, Geometry, and Business mathematics. I have also taught at Pensacola State College in the Developmental Studies Department (pre-algebra and beginning algebra), Collegiate High School, and Veteran's Upward Bound. While at PSC, I was the assistant supervisor and tutored math courses including trigonometry, statistics, pre-calculus and Calculus I. I am professionally certified in mathematics in two states, Alabama and Florida. I am currently teaching at a charter school while continuing my adjunct responsibilities at PSC and working on my master's degrees.
I have been tutoring since 1995 in all the subjects listed. I go over a problem in detail and then guide the student while he/she attempts to do it. After guiding students, I leave them alone to do a couple on their own and then come back to check if they got the problem right. If not, then I remediate them again and go through the process over until the student comprehends the material; then, we can move onto the next objective.
