I have been teaching students in Pre-K through college classes for a total of 33 years. I recently retired from Sarasota District Schools after 12 years working in Florida. My previous experience was in Ohio.

I am especially skilled in dealing with students who demonstrate difficulties with language arts- related subjects.

My experiences as a teacher and program administrator for gifted students have given me the opportunities to develop and utilize many creative and unique approaches to learning. These approaches make both the teaching and leaning process more enjoyable, more effective, and more likely to make my students successful.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I am a certified ESE teacher at the elementary and secondary levels in both OH and FL. I also hold certification in SED (Severe Emotionally Disturbed). ESE certification requires demonstrated ability to effectively deal with students who have a diagnosis of ADD/ADHD which occurs quite frequently with ESE students.

I have taught ESE students and been an ESE administrator for a total of 33 years. I have also taught behavior modification classes at the college level.

I currently tutor students in Sarasota and Manatee Counties who demonstrate attention deficit concerns and am eminently quite qualified to deal with any student with this exceptionality.

Autism

M.Ed. in ESE, Ohio University - 1987

+45, Ohio University in Gifted Education and ESE Supervision/Administration - 1995

Ohio Permanent Certification in Exceptional Student and Gifted Education

Current FL Certification in ESE and Gifted Education (2010-2015)

I have taught and supervised ESE classes and programs for a total of 33 years. During that time my classes have encompassed all aspects of exceptional student education. My students have been identified as learning disaabled, emotionally handicapped, autistic, mentally handicapped, and those with sensory deprivation. During my tenure in Sarasota District Schools I taught classes which were exclusively limited to autistic children (pre-k through first grade). I am definitely more than qualified to tutor children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. (I currently privately tutor one student at this time.)

During my tenure in the public school systems of both Ohio and Florida I have taught all grades from Pre-K through 12th. When obtaining my doctorate I also taught ESE student teachers through Nova Southeastern University.

Elementary (K-6th)

I possess a Florida Certification K-6 good through 2015. I have been certified both in OH and in FL and have taught elementary and middle school ESE and Gifted children in both states. I have also taught regular education elementary students in OH. I have Masters' Degrees in ESE and in Gifted and Administration. My Doctoral Degree is in Educational Leadership. Previous teaching experience for a period encompassing 33 years includes students from pre-school through college.

Elementary Math

I am certified in Elementary Education K - 8 which includes both math and reading. I also carry a separate certification in reading as well as ESE K - 12 and Gifted Education K - 12. I have taught math at both the elementary and high school levels. I also have tutored many students in both elementary and high school level math classes and am currently doing so.

Study Skills

I have successfully taught Learning Strategies at both the high school and elementary levels for several years. The curriculum for these classes includes study skills, test-taking strategies, time and task management, and organizational skills. It has been a recommended class for all ESE students for many years as they frequently have difficulty in these skills. These are much the same as many of the skills that I have taught to my reading students. I am more than qualified to teach/tutor study skills.
