Introduction and background:
Hi! Thank you for reading more about me. From friends to family to part-time work at learning centers to a high school math teacher, I have helped a lot of people with math. Each experience has provided me with valuable tools and tricks to use while working with a student. I have worked with elementary kids to adult learners and each person is unique with their own background and abilities. I adjust my style and approach to meet the student's needs.
Tutoring philosophy
I strongly believe that students need to master the basics of the lesson and then go from there. If a student didn't retain a skill needed for the current lesson then that is where we would start. Math is one subject that certain skills show up over and over so it is crucial to be constantly spiraling the core skills into the new material. This is tricky because there are so many standards that the state requires; however, it is my specialty to help the students master the foundation skills for each lesson; also, to prepare them for future core skills. I do this by exposing them to it early so they retain it and use it when they need it. Practice and organization are also very important in helping students to be successful in math.
Personal
I am mom to a very active 2 year old. I like movies, beach, parks, walking, board games, amusement parks. My hometown is Buffalo, NY. I hold a Master's in applied economics and FL teaching certificate in math 6-12.
I am passionate about tutoring and love what I do. To see a student's abilities and confidence grow is very rewarding. I hope to hear from you and work with you soon.
