I specialize in English tutoring and writing tutoring/consulting for adults and students of all ages. I also tutor reading, phonics, elementary hand writing, English grammar, proofreading, vocabulary, essay writing, humanities, language arts, biology, health science, life science, anatomy, physiology, study skills and SAT, PSAT, and GED. At UCF I completed a practicum in the Center for Writing Excellence, with instruction and practical experience in ESL/ESOL English writing tutoring. I worked with a diverse student population at UCF Orlando and at EFSC/UCF's Cocoa campus writing center. I also helped students at the UCF Multilingual Multicultural Studies Center in Orlando, volunteering my time to work as a conversation hour partner. Many of these students were learning to speak English for the first time. I currently help students whose second language is English (ESL) to become better communicators and writers. I love helping other people succeed.
I help each student to achieve his or her potential. I'm flexible, understanding and patient. Each tutoring session is customized for the individual student. At the high school and university level, I help students decipher academic rubrics and assignment criteria, as well as, prioritize workloads. Sometimes a student just needs a caring person to talk to in order to recognize what the next step might be. No writing assignment, project or presentation is too complicated for me. I help others learn to put English projects in perspective, set goals, and complete lengthy writing assignments within deadlines. The following list includes a few of the specific examples of writing assignments and projects I have tutored. The schools I am familiar with curriculum also are noted:
High School/Public (County and FL Virtual School) & Private (The First Academy):
*AP English Composition/Literature papers/Creative Writing/Poetry/Film script
*AP U. S. History writing assignments and presentations
*HS Honors senior capstone writing project
University Level (EFSC and UCF):
*English Composition I and II papers
*Honors Humanities/Literature/film reviews and papers
*UCF Health Services Administration capstone leadership writing project
*Nursing undergraduate and graduate group research papers
PUBLIC SPEAKING INFORMATION: I enjoy meeting new people and learning about other cultures, as well as, helping others to build confidence in their English speaking and writing skills. I am a member of a local Toastmasters club in Orlando with the purpose of increasing public speaking skills. We welcome all visitors and encourage membership to practice and learn to become a competent communicator. Public speaking can be nerve wracking, but it can become a positive experience for anyone.
I also offer PowerPoint and public speaking tutoring for those students needing an extra boost of confidence. The students that have reviewed presentations with me have been given valuable feedback and went on to earn high grades on presentation projects.
I am also a student, therefore, I understand the pressures facing most college students. When one feels the need for additional assistance, it is often late in the game. Having a dedicated tutor that can be supportive, challenging, and devoted to helping the student achieve their best can make all the difference when faced with complex academic assignments.
