I am a graduate of Stony Brook University on Long Island, NY, and have a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the University of Central Florida. At Stony Brook University I studied Linguistics, and am very familiar with the mechanics of both spoken and written informal and formal English, particularly business English.
I have 3 and a half years of experience in SAT/ACT test preparation (both skill improvement and test taking strategy), working with high school students on the Critical Reading, Writing, and English portions of these standardized tests. I have also assisted students increase their GRE Verbal scores
I tutor German up to the intermediate level; I have been studying German for over 15 years and have spent some time abroad in Germany, and love German grammar and phonology.

Grammar

I have studied German for over 10 years at the middle school, high school, and college level and have lived abroad in the country. I can tutor beginning and intermediate German, as well as some issues in advanced German. Whether you are looking for help with German grammar, want to improve your conversational German, or simply want to improve your accent, I can help.

SAT Reading

I have been tutoring for the Critical Reading and Writing portions of the SAT for over three and a half years, and have helped all my students reach their goals. I work on teaching reading and writing/grammar skills as well as test preparation strategy.

ACT English

I have over three years of experience tutoring ACT English. This portion of the ACT test focuses on the student's grasp of standard written English and his or her ability to judge the grammatical correctness of sentences. I work on improving student's understanding of written English, as well as covering test strategies for question types and timing on this section of the ACT.

ESL/ESOL

I have a BA in Linguistics from Stony Brook University and a graduate certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the University of Central Florida. I can teach all levels of English, from beginner to advanced, and am very familiar with the ins and outs of both conversational and academic/professional written and spoken English.

Drawing

I completed four years of art in high school, focusing on still lifes in pencil, and studied art history for two years. I informally continued with drawing in order to maintain my skill in this area. I have experience with creating perspective, shading, black and white pencil drawing, colored pencils, watercolors, and acrylic medium painting.

ISEE

I have worked with several students on the verbal, reading, and writing portions of the middle and upper portions of this test - students going into 8th and 10th grade. All my students successfully passed the test and were admitted to the private school they had applied to.
