My name is Tanesha, and I am currently a 3rd year undergraduate student attending Florida Memorial University majoring in biology and nursing. I previously attended the Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York for my 1st year of undergraduate study. I am an A student and have a passion for math and science. I enjoy helping others in anyway I possibly can. I have been tutoring and mentoring students from kindergarten through high school in various subject matters for over three years. I am a friendly, outgoing individual who will not only be your tutor but also your friend if you need me to be. My teaching methods vary according to the subject. If I do see that the student is not learning the information with the method I use, I would be more than happy to adjust and try a new approach, because I am aware that everyone does not learn at the same level or pace.

I prefer to meet in person with my students for sessions. For each session an outline of the topics that would be covered and a small packet would be given to the student depending on the subject being tutored. Throughout the course I do administer short quizzes and tests to my students to ensure that they are understanding the subject material and to see where their strength and weaknesses are so that I may provide help where help is needed. After every session a report is given to the student or parent of the student, depending on the age, of how he/she is progressing throughout the sessions. I am flexible and also fair so if adjustments need to be made pertaining to the hourly rate and/or time of the tutoring session I would try my best to work around your schedule. Feel free to ask any questions that you may have. I will be more than happy to respond.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I am currently a 3rd year undergraduate nursing and biology student at Florida Memorial University. Being a nursing and biology major, mathematics is an important aspect to my study. I have tutored various types of math but Algebra 1 is my favorite. I am a very patient person and do not mind repeating myself multiple times in order for a student to correctly learn how to answer a problem. I provided worksheets and other extra materials to assist with teaching the subject along with whatever material the student brings. I do create an outline of how long a student should spend on one topic but will make the necessary adjustments if I see that they do not fully grasp the concept. My job is to ensure that you gain the knowledge necessary to understand and pass the course.

Anatomy

I am currently a 2nd year undergraduate nursing and biology student at Florida Memorial University. Science and math are my main focus being a biology and nursing major. Anatomy is one of the most important subjects in the topic of science. I have taken this class at an honors level in high school and also in college and have successfully passed with an A. I enjoy tutoring this subject because of my love for science. Index cards, diagrams, sketches, recordings, videos, flash cards, and difference textbooks and workbooks are items i use when tutoring this subject. The reason for the multiple textbooks is mainly for cross-reference purposes. I do supply my students with the necessary worksheets, sketches, diagrams,or videos if needed. It is a very straightforward subject to learn but requires a lot of studying, focus and determination. Because most students struggle with time management I create a study schedule for the subject with topics, quizzes and tests so that the student has ample time to cover the subject matter. I also administer quizzes and test between each topic to ensure that the student is gaining the knowledge needed to fully understand the subject. I would be there as your guide to help you through step by step until you have reached your goal.

Physiology

I am currently a 2nd year undergraduate nursing and biology student at Florida Memorial University. Science and math are my main focus, being a biology and nursing major. Physiology, apart from anatomy, is one of the most important subjects in the topic of science. I have taken this class at an honors level in high school and have successfully passed with an A. I enjoy tutoring this subject because of my love for science. Index cards, diagrams, sketches, recordings, videos, flash cards, and difference textbooks and workbooks are items i use when tutoring this subject. Reading

I am currently a 2nd year undergraduate nursing and biology student at Florida Memorial University. Reading is essential to learning. I personally enjoying reading. It is one of my personal hobbies. I am currently a member of a book club on Florida Memorial University Campus. Every first Monday of each month we meet for about a hour and a half and discussed the book. Toni Morrison is the author that we chose this year. Over the years when tutoring i have found that this is the most difficult subject for many students. I was able to create an approach to assist in this area very easily because most students were having trouble in the same areas. During this course i help students recognize and use individual sounds to create words, understand the relationship between written letters and spoken sounds, learn how to read fluently and understand the vocabulary being read and the toughest part for most students, comprehension. This subject requires consecutive practice on the subject material. I do provide the necessary study materials for this course.

Spelling

I am currently a 2nd year undergraduate nursing and biology student at Florida Memorial University. I have participated in numerous spelling bees in elementary and junior high always remaining in the top 5 champions. I have been tutoring elementary school, middle school and high school students in various subjects including spelling. A technique I constantly use when tutoring for spelling is a repetitive approach. So far this method has proved to be very successful for my previous students.

Vocabulary

I am currently a 2nd year undergraduate nursing and biology student at Florida Memorial University. During high school, I was given all honors classes for English and within that class we were responsible for learning a new set of vocabulary every week. I continued that process even now throughout college in order to enhance my vocabulary. When tutoring this subject, I normally use an approach where I have my students find an image or a specific word that relates to the vocabulary word apart from learning the given definition. I have been using this approach from since high school and i still use it to it. I find it very helpful and my previous students did to.
