I have over 25 years experience in the software industry working for such companies as Philco-Ford, Raytheon, GTE-Sylvania, MIT/Lincoln Laboratories, Harris and Safe Net. During that period of time I progressed from a Hardware engineer and transitioned into Software Engineering. My main disciplines being orbital science, missile testing, and cryptology.
I have spent the last 20 years of my career in various management positions from Range Safety Ship Manager to Software Project Manager. My entire career has been one of mentoring fellow employees who are junior to myself. I have even had one manager refer to me as a programmer's programmer. In particular I will answer a fellow employee's questions even two or three times but when the questions become repetitive it is time for that employee to hit the books and learn the subject for themselves.
I try as much as possible to make a very dry subject fun and interesting for my students. I do not test my students with trick questions. I try to use multiple choice questions rather than oratorical questions. The entire idea of learning a subject is how to use that subject (software product) in their daily life.
Being an honorably discharged United States Air Force veteran who passed the ASVAB with a score of 97 I am well qualified to tutor and prepare a person to take the ASVAB test for entry into military service.
I have programmed and managed many C and C++ projects during a career lasting 25+ years. As a manager I was responsible to tutor and guide my employees on the design and use of C and C++ for programs. A C or C++ program requires that not only is the design of the software needed but also a proper and efficient design of any associated data areas.
I have been involved in Computer Science and Computer programming specifically since 1969 after leaving the United States Air Force after serving for four years. Subsequently, I studied several programming languages and attended college leading to a degree in Computer Science. I have progressed in my career from a junior programmer, Senior Software Engineer, Software Scientist, and by the time I retired from daily work I was a Software Project Manager.
I have over the years been the Architect of software projects, Requirements Lead, Software Engineer, Software Verification Test Engineer and finally as Software Project Manager with 36 people reporting to me.
As a college graduate I have sufficient skills to teach mathematics at the Elementary level.
With English being my primary language and having a rudimentary command of Spanish, Italian and French I am able to immerse my students into the English language so that they can speak, think and write in English given sufficient learning sessions.
I have programmed in FORTRAN and all of it's derivative versions since 1978. All of my FORTRAN experience has been in the area of Missile Testing as a member of the software staff at the U S Army test range in Kwajalein, Republic of the Marshall Islands. I also used FORTRAN as the main language of a message processing system and also an orbital prediction program for MIT/Lincoln Laboratories, Group 90.
Having graduated from Keesler Air Force Base as an Electronic technician and subsequently graduated college with a Computer Science degree I am well qualified to tutor students wishing to gain general computer knowledge.
I have over 25 years experience using Excel in my daily work.
Outlook is a relatively simple to master program for the collection and filing of electronic communications (email). It is configurable to allow for the automatic filing of messages into pre-determined folders in place of being put into the INBOX folder. A course in this subject should be divided into a beginning course and an advanced course. Beginners are interested in being able to send and receive basic email and attachments. More advanced users wish to learn how to cause message traffic to be routed to various folders on the computer.
I have over 25 years of experience using PowerPoint to present data and ideas in my daily work environment. As one begins to gain knowledge of this Microsoft product one is able to put together very convincing sales presentations for prospective customers or in house management.
Being a manager and member of several proposal teams, PROJECT is an extremely valuable tool to provide project metric information. During a proposal stage it is primarily of use in defining the projects Work Breakdown Schedule (WBS). During project execution it is used to measure progress, assign appropriate personnel to various tasks and also to predict project completion. Another use is for the manager to predict the cost both in dollars and schedule what the impact of proposed changes will be. It is also used to determine at any instant in time what is the critical paths of the project.
Communication is an absolute must in the business world as well as in the conduct of one's personal life as well. Word allows us to prepare all sorts of documentation. Such documents being user manuals, transmission of project status, required project documents to mention a few of it's uses to the individual or organizational user.
As a home grown project I developed a web based (before there was a real web) application in PASCAL that would take the latest Automobile Industry Cost information such as Cost, MSRP and provide my customers with all the facts and figures for any new automobile being offered for sale. Key to the program at the time was the unique design of the database for that home project. I used this program on my website for over 3 years when real HTML programming became available.
The key to good study skills is to take careful notes during class and also when reading assigned texts. As such it is imperative that the student learn how to take good notes. When getting ready for an exam the primary source for study is the notes that the student took during the course and of the texts which were read by the student. One thing many students fail to realize is that being well rested as well as proper study for the test always results in excellent test results. Such skills were responsible for my maintaining a 3.59 GPA of a 4.0 possible score at the University of California at Irvine.
