I started working as a paid tutor in April 2014.Throughout senior year (starting in September 2013), I have tutored in SAT, ACT, and Algebra in National Honor Society. I have also tutored my friends in ACT. Additionally, I have helped my mother teach Religious Education for different age groups, which range from kindergarten to teenagers (with the majority being teenagers), since I was eight years old.
I have a 32 composite on my ACT, with a 35 on Mathematics, a 33 on Reading, a 30 on English, a 30 on Science, and a 9 on the essay. I am stronger in the ACT, but I definitely tutor in the SAT as well. I got a 1900 in the SAT, with a 690 in Mathematics, a 610 in Verbal, and 600 in Writing. I also am very strong in Mathematics in school. I have consistently gotten one of the highest, if not the highest, grade in my math classes, which include Algebra II Honors, Trigonometry (as a Dual Enrollment course), and AP Calculus AB. Additionally, I am strong in English; I am currently taking AP English Literature and have received an A throughout the course. Also, I received a 5 (out of 5) on my AP English Language exam last year.
Although my age may seem as a hindrance, I can guarantee you that it is actually a benefit. I have recently completed the whole college preparation process, which ranges from college applications, scholarships, ACT, SAT, academics, extracurricular, etc., and I have gained so much insight from my experience. Additionally, through all of my hard work and dedication, I have been able to achieve my dream of attending the College of William and Mary. Since I know how tough the process is, I support the student reaching his/her dream every step of the way. I am extremely patient and make sure the student understands the content, whether it takes once or one hundred times to explain. Also, I make sure to adhere to their study skills, in order to ensure that the student ends up succeeding and fulfilling his/her dreams.
I have been tutoring in Algebra I since September 2013. I am planning to major in Applied Mathematics in College of William and Mary during fall 2014. Also, in high school, I have consistently received high A's in my math classes, especially Algebra II and Calculus.
What makes me a great Algebra I tutor is my enthusiasm. I have a passion for math that constantly shows, and I always make sure that my students understand the material.
I have recently graduated from high school, which makes me extremely informed of the college process. I applied to 12 schools and was accepted to every single one, including College of William and Mary, University of Virginia, University of Florida, University of Miami, and Florida State University. Therefore, I can definitely give tips on how to get into tougher schools like these.
I have also applied to 52 scholarships and have received, at this point, $27,500 in scholarships for my undergraduate education. My scholarship success will allow me to advise students on how to approach scholarships and how I received my scholarships. I also have knowledge of applying to FAFSA and Florida Bright Futures, which will allow me to help individuals complete these processes with much ease.
I was the aide of my high school's college counselor for a year, which gives me an inside scoop of unknown scholarships, how to approach FAFSA, and what colleges want to see in their applications. Also, I helped proofread and edit many of my friend's college essays during the application period, which allows me to be able to critique and help improve the student's essays.
I know that the process is extremely difficult, but because of my perseverance, I will be attending my dream school, College of William and Mary. As a tutor, I wish nothing more than to help my students achieve their dreams like I did mine.
When I took the course in high school, I ended with a solid A. Additionally, I find Geometry lots of fun, so I would be tutoring in a way that will make it exciting for the student (i.e., use highlighters). I have also tutored before in SAT/ACT, with my focus being on math. I am qualified to tutor in Geometry because of the excitement, patience, dedication, and knowledge needed in order to excel as a Geometry tutor.
I took Trigonometry as a Dual Enrollment student in Miami Dade College and received a 108%, which was the highest grade in the class. I have also taken Calculus AB in school and received high A's in that class as well. I fully understand Trigonometry from what I learned in my dual enrollment class, and I feel that the insight I have learned of Trig in Calculus will allow me to help students understand the subject further.
