I am an established, proven, and experienced tutor with references. I earned my law degree (JD) and Master's in Public Health (MPH) from Emory University in Atlanta, where I was a member of the law review, and competed in moot court competitions. At Emory, I also served as the 3L instructor to a 1L section in a required course focused on legal research and writing. Professionally, I am a litigation attorney with a background in health law and healthcare policy.

My strengths as a tutor include an emphasis on critical thinking and analysis. I work with my students on analyzing and "breaking-down" information and data to determine the substantive material.

This approach is particularly helpful in preparing students for standardized tests, LSAT preparation, and Bar Review.

I am available to tutor all social sciences, with particular skill and experience in subjects such as law, history, government, comparative government, and essay assignments. In addition, I tutor for the LSAT, GMAT, and the Florida Bar Exam.

I have excellent references. I form a strong bond with my students, and am entirely devoted to their success and achievement.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I graduated from an Ivy League School with a double-major in Political Science and Urban Studies. After graduating, I immediately went to work for Vice President Gore's administration in Washington, DC. After two years, I moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and earned a law degree and a master's in public health, with a focus on international health and legal issues. My research paper/Comment, focused on international sanctions, was a Finalist for "Best Comment" for the International Law Review. I have appeared before all Courts in Florida, save the Florida Supreme Court. I am also active in the Florida Bar and in leadership development.

Bar Exam

I am an active member in good standing with the Florida Bar. I was admitted to the Bar in 2001, after passing the Bar Exam on the first attempt, and with strong scores in both the "Florida" section (essay and multiple choice) of the Bar Exam, and the "Multi-State" section consisting of multiple choice questions. I have tutoring experience in preparing students for essay questions and multiple choice questions.

Criminal Justice

I am an attorney and Investigator for the State of Florida-employed specifically with Capital Collateral Regional Counsel-South. We deal exclusively with capital cases/death sentences. However, much of the job involves forensics, behavioral science, and procedure. I am well versed in Florida's criminal justice system. I have practiced law in criminal court, and now work for the CCRC, which is strictly appellate counsel.

Government & Politics

I graduated from Vassar College with honors, and with a dual degree in Political Science and Urban Studies. Thereafter, I worked for Vice President Gore's "Reinventing Government" initiative in Washington, DC. I then moved to Atlanta, Georgia and attended Emory Law School and School of Public Health, where I earned a JD and MPH. Significantly, I was selected to serve on the Emory International Law Journal, and my Comment, regarding the threat of international sanctions on Iraq, was published as was selected as a Finalist for "Best Comment." My legal practice often involved international issues, jurisdictional questions, and analysis of conflicting laws.

Law

I graduated from Emory Law School and Emory School of Public Health with a JD/MPH. As a first year (1L), I was selected as Finalist for the School's Oral Argument and Brief competition. Thereafter, I was selected to write for the Law Review, and my Comment, focusing on economic sanctions imposed on Iraq, was published and was a Finalist for "Best Comment." As a 3L, I was a Dean's Fellow and instructed 1L students on legal research and writing.

As a litigation attorney, my practice is legal writing and hearings in court. I have drafted successful appeals to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, and all levels of Florida's State Appellate Courts. My practice consists of heavy motion practice, with frequent memoranda of law required.

Political Science

I graduated from Vassar College (former sister school to Yale) with a dual-degree in Political Science and Urban Studies. After graduating, I worked for Al Gore for two years, and then returned to graduate school. At Emory, I earned a law degree and a master's in public health. I was selected to write on the Emory International Law Review. I have been a practicing attorney and writer for 14 years. I study and write on International Relations and comparative government.

Proofreading

I have edited and proofread professionally, and am trained in Strunk and White's "Elements of Style."

Public Speaking

As a litigation attorney, I make my living by presenting persuasive arguments before various courts in Florida. At Emory Law School, I was on the moot court team, and was a finalist in the first year oral argument competition. I have appeared and argued before Florida's Federal District Courts of Appeal, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals seated in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, I have handled numerous appeals before Florida's state district courts of appeal. I have been trained in rhetoric, persuasive argument, and debate.

Social Studies

Softball

I played four years of varsity baseball in college. Since I returned to South Florida, I was the assistant coach, varsity girls' softball, at Ransom-Everglades School in Coconut Grove, Florida. My primary focus was on pitching and the outfielders. I have been to various softball clinics, where methods in coaching and strategy are discussed.

Study Skills

From 1999 to 2000, I served as a student instructor for a first year research/writing/study skills course with 14 first year law students at Emory University School of Law. I was tasked with teaching the students the study and time management skills necessary to succeed in law school, such as study/preparation, exams, and writing assignments with time limits. All of the 14 students earned high marks in the course, and noted how much my planning and organization had helped them develop their own study habits. My tutoring sessions and lesson plans are based on organization, time management, and preparation for short or long-term exams or assignments. Furthermore, my tutor feedback emphasized my ability to do impart these skills successfully to my students. I assist students in short term and long-term study sessions, so they are able to adapt to both requirements as the coursework requires.
