I am a science geek! I am a College Professor that is very knowledgeable about science and math - especially the biological sciences. I can help you with your 6-12 science classwork or undergraduate college coursework related to various subjects in biology including general biology, anatomy, physiology, zoology, ecology, marine biology, and others.

Science needs math too. If math is getting you down, I can also help you with those algebra and geometry courses!

Finally, I can help you with test prep for the SAT/ACT - all sections of the test but also specifically the math portion (SAT and ACT) and science section (ACT).

That's what I'm here for - to provide you with not only help in figuring out the difficult information, but also to help you find a good way to study the material so that you can do well on the tests and assignments as well as retain the material for your future career.

In my tutoring sessions, I expect you to come prepared with questions and willing to learn. I will provide you with personalized attention directed at your material, and provide you with information to help understand the material and study it so you can remember it.

Remember - It's never too early or too late to get help!

I have taught Botany as part of my General Biology courses for 6 years. It is an integral part in showing plant metabolism and physiology, as well as plant anatomy and identification. I have also taken a Botany course, and have studied aquatic plants through my course work in both freshwater and marine biology. Plants are the primary producers in all food webs and are incredibly important for students to know and understand.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked with children in a wide range of subject areas just as I have worked with adults. I enjoy teaching children because you have the opportunity to generate a spark and inspire curiosity in a subject the student may find frustrating. I have given guest lectures to the day care classes and young students while I was a professor teaching college. I was also the keynote speaker at a conference on early childhood education and inspiring students to get outdoors and experience science.

I have taken numerous math classes including geometry and have taught math as part of my science teaching for many years. I am also currently tutoring students in geometry and algebra.

I have taught Nutrition as a component of general biology courses, physiology courses, and lack of nutrition causing disease in pathophysiology. It is a key component for explaining not only the digestive system physiology, but also metabolism in general, so it has always had a major emphasis in my classes. I have also taken two nutrition courses (one undergraduate and one graduate) during my studies as well.

Study Skills

Study skills are essential for students to learn so they can work on their own outside of tutoring/school. I have taught study skills from a wide variety of perspectives using different learning styles and different methodologies for not only communicating the information, but also teaching the students how to work to their strengths and recognize their weaknesses. That factor is instrumental in getting students to learn material and I have used it in all my teaching - visual aids, "hands-on", flash cards, crossword puzzles, coloring books, sticky notes, and many others.

I have taken courses in zoology, animal anatomy and physiology, and animal behavior. I have taught general biology classes and anatomy and physiology classes using animals as examples for human systems and vice versa. I believe since humans are also animals, the study of human systems is a further extension on the study of animal systems. My background is based in organismal biology studying animals of all different types in research, lab experiments, and in textbooks.
